Damn that really sucks, would then probably be to get a replacement for that area cut from another car then cut out the bit on your car and then weld in the replacement bit, but I have to say it would kill me to have to do something like that :bawling:

You might also want to look around for metal working places that might be able to do a much more conservative repair to just the badly rusted portions, then take the car to a body shop for re-spraying etc.

While that is fairly sucky, you got off light there nick...

If your panel guy knows what he is doing, he can cut and replace that clean using just a base color match, does not need to repray the body color.

If that was in other favourate spots that the E34's love to rust in, its significantly harder. A skilled craftsman should sort that out for you easily..

I am lucky that it's behind the light unit. It means that I don't need to respray entire panels, ect. I just can't figure out how it rusted that bad in that spot :dunno: The other side is still perfect. Maybe a fault as the factory?? Aarg, who knows.

I was thinking of asking the local Muscle Car builders what they thought. They do deal with this sort of stuff daily.

cut the rust out and make a new piece out of fibre glass before it spreads to a more important area...

Nic, your car looks so sweet, as usual. Love the interior pics. Damn about the rust, but at least it can be sorted. Hope to see your beauty again soon.

That really sucks about the rust. Whats the difference in colour of your car and Wykids?

I think mine is slightly darker/more blue. I can't remember the name of the colour now.

Yup, mine is Aqua Blue does look to be a bit lighter and has a bit of a "flip" in different light with a tinge of green and violet.

What you want to do for now is to stop the rust.

Rust is self perpetuating, and rust feeds itself it doesn't have to be wet. Mask off the clean panel, and grind it down to the metal, primer it repair any small holes.

At least this will stop any further damage till you can do a full repair and it is hidden behind the light anyway.

Well that's what I would do anyway if it was mine. "Say he looking out the window at his E34 in the rain"

I don't have the expertise or the tools to do that. For now I'm focusing on the mechanics of the car. When are going to see some picks of your E34? :)

Was missing my car (STILL waiting for mechie to finish fitting the clutch. Waiting for pipe or something...) and so I had a look at some picks. Decided to add the last I took here.

The car has been a bit of bad luck since I got it despite my best efforts to keep it out of harms way. I've never been in any sort of crash or small accident with my E30 as I'm always very careful, but the 540 seems to attract trouble like a supercharged magnet:
Ripped engine mounting + other stuff!!!
I smashed a golf, my car is fine though...
Police drove into my 540i

The clutch slave cylinder and the pipe that goes to it exploded one early morning as the clutch is to heavy for those bits to handle. The old clutch is pretty worn, but why it's so heavy I don't know.

The car itself has been an amazing machine to drive and I can't wait to get it back with it's brand new clutch. My goal is to have the car as original as possible. I have to give some attention to my E30 first though.

*Goes on youtube to listen to some V8 clips*

I have respect for this, but I can really recommend getting a exhaust to just bring out the V8 sound a bit, it really is

Nic's car makes a good noise. I've heard it, and it sounds much more V8 than mine.

The previous owner said that the CATS have been removed, but I was somewhat skeptical about it having CATS in the first place. Rick540 had a look on his PC of knowledge and sure enough the car never came with CATS. Turns out the center box has been removed. I'll be leaving it as is. I like a nice tone more than having the original exhaust :)

Here's what it sounds like. Think the cracking noise if from it running LRP. I have switched to ULP which it's suppose to run on.

I will have someone with a proper camera take a proper vid. The vid above makes it sound like a mustang.
