Z3 M Coupe engine problems

Moving along
Did the required stripdown of the peripherals and once again confirmed my extreme dislike for the way this engine needs to be threatened before it comes out.
Certainly do not look forward to putting it back.

The car is being collected tomorrow to go back home whilst we work on the engine.

We are expecting to order a fair amount of spares from VAC so we are likely going to have to wait.

Further updates as we progress.

Eish. Eish. Eish. Eish.

Your pains, i feels it. Very pretty colour though on the car. I presume it is a equal mission to get my cars motor out aswell?

I guess this repair/rebuild is going to cost quite a few thousand.

Best of Luck! I'm sure she would be and running to her former glory!

Walt yours is a lot easier a heck of a lot easier. As a matter of fact it is so easy even Chester can do it.
On second thoughts I shall get him to do it if or when it gets up here.

Tyu333 and Tehwalleth, watch the engine rebuild Peter did on my car. It's a 4 episode series, roughly 50 minutes long. You'll see all the Vac parts being installed correctly and how Peter gets it done.

Really cool video me thinks. It will rest your heart and let you know you are making the right choice.

Oh don't you worry i have watched them long before this shit happened. The real irony of the matter is any of my mates that looks at a S54 i tell them first thing you do is change the bearings. I was actually going to call Peter in Jan to arrange for a bearing chance since it just ticked over to 160 000km and i was due for a intrim oil change anyway. Alas on the 24th of December Santa gave me a lovely little xmas prezzie.

Went to see my usual Mechi today. He gave me a RCC for not listening to him and not using TWS . He will strip the engine out so we can take pics of the bores etc to assess whether i will need a new motor or if the good Dr can save it.

I am aware that each of us has a preference for one brand over another however in the case of the TWS there are more detractors than promoters.

In most instances it is the prolonged oil change intervals that will cause the damage.

Besides BMW with immediate effect has moved over to SHELL.

There are a number of S54 owners that swear by LM as I am sure there are owners who only use TWS.
In the case of owners whose cars live north of 6000rpm regularly they will tell you that their engine is free revving and smoother on LM

On a personal note having worked on cars that were run on TWS and having had to clean the sludge I would be reluctant to advocate its use.....imho

You must have seen your fair share of these cars, what would you say was the highest mileage you've seen on these e46 m3..

That is a difficult one Earl as I have never worked on an E46 M3 with more than 160 000Km recorded on the odometer.

All things concidered that is surprisingly little wear on them given some of the other's i have seen. Will be watching this thread like a hawk, while gently singing sweet songs to my bank manager and wallet. Why the new springs? Owner going for a rev limit bump?
