RS thank you.
I shall do my best to deliver that which Lebo wants.
As to the fresh break...
The cap was cracked and I separated a portion of it.
There is still a piece missing which is the small corner piece that looks aged.
Talking of unorthodox methods maybe you will shed some light as to how the corner piece went awol, how the cams were mistimed and how the solenoid seals had been chewed by rats.

Given the amount of silicon on the bridge I suspect that it was used more for support rather than to prevent leaks.

As to non complimentary statements I do not recall making any however "If the hat fits wear it"

I have said my part.
And further comment will end up ruining the topic and being nothing but destructive.

But you are right Peter, Gizmo and Moranor. I am a useless mechanic, with zero talent and cannot even build a lego car... but then why are you guys trying so very hard to constantly team up and "take me down"?

Something to think about perhaps? Just think of how many of your old clients roll through my doors and yet I choose not to badmouth any of you at any point.so yes the hat does fit and quite nicely I might add.:cartel:

I am glad that you have clients RS.

May you continue having them whether it is to build lego cars or whatever.

As you correctly stated no need to derail the thread or for that matter for you to have even appeared in this section however I am flattered that you spend time reading my posts.

I trust that you will find them educational as well as usefull.

RS where did I say anything negative about you in this thread or any of your builds for that matter?

also Peter did not name you so you did not have to be connected with this build

this is not useful lets rather focus on fixing Lebos car so HE can be happy with it...

Lol this thread is full of funnies.

RS stepping in and admitting to your faults is the first step in moving forward, the fact that you stood up and took ownership of the work tells us that you indeed want to learn from your mistakes, I applaud you.
Peter, Moranor and myself are way too busy to conspire against you so don't flatter yourself. There are no conspiracies here, only sincerity.

As far as the broken bridge goes, I wouldn't be comfortable fixing that, the piece from the first break is probably in the sump but it may have gotten mangled in the journey through the timing case to get there, equally it may have done a number on the chain guides and timing gear too.
Shall I start looking for a replacement bridge?

The car has done 10000km since the initial vanos work and has had 3 oil changes in that time. I did the oil changes and didn't find anything in the oil. The missing piece, wouldn't it have cause damage on first start-up?

hopefully it is sitting at the bottom of the sump if it were my car I would take the sump off to look for it because it would drive me mad not knowing where it is lol

A broken metal part no bigger than 5mm in dia. caused catastrophic failure of my father's 5.0L V8.

The tip of a pushrod (from a previous failure) was sloshing in the sump for more than 2 years, until one day when it got caught in the timing chain sprocket.

The chain snapped, cam went stationary while the crank was still spinning @ 7000RPM, pistons smashed into valves :ka-boom::burnt::cry:

@Lebo, there is no better person to sort this motor out than Peter. I love the fact that he keeps you updated every step he undertakes on your repairs. You car will come back a beast unleashed!!!

That piece will be sitting in the front of the sump by the oil pump. It hasn't and probably won't work its way back to drain plug and is probably bigger than the drain hole.

So........a bearing rumble followed by low compression on 1 and 3 have forced us to do what we seem to do every January which is "Rebuild an M Engine Month"
Engineers are open on Monday so we intend having the motor with them then or Wednesday the latest.
Once we know the extend of the engineering work required Lebo will bring parts in from the USA
Pics of the strip down to follow.....

Another awesome VAC build? If I got time, I should come film this. Busy month this month though. Let me know when you are building Peter, maybe I can drop in with a camera.

:blueCry: thats terrible news sorry to hear about this tyu333 but from what I've seen your car is in good hands Peters work speaks for itself and is top notch in my opinion. Good luck with the rebuild :coolShake:

Lebo came past this morning in his DIESEL powered Caddy to collect all the parts that have been stripped off the car.
That Caddy has the best set of wheel caps I have seen on a golf.....absolutely stunning.

During our discussion he tells me that the car did rumble once prior to it going to RacingSnake for the vanos work initially.
That by extension implies that whatever RS did to the car he was NOT the cause of the engine rumble that is now a permanent event.
So for the record and according to Lebo the car did present the engine rumble prior to RS touching it therefore RS was not the cause of what ever may be found in the engine on strip down.

Just setting the record straight.
