Thanks guys

Just remember that the photo's actually hide quite a bit. The front bumper has a lot of tiny chips for example.

I have the phone that goes with the whole setup, but I haven't figured out how it works yet. I've had it in the holder and figured out how it clips in, but it doesn't seem to charge. :dunno:

I put my D900i right next to the gearstick and it doesn't go anywhere. I also put my flat's keys there and they don't anywhere either even when I floored it in first gear the other night. I have this almost carpet type material around the the gear stick which feels a little grippy. Dunno if normal 540's has something else there.

Some bad news though, I've discovered some really bad rust behind the rear left light unit this morning. I have taken some picks with my phone and will ask some of the panel beaters here if anything can be done. Personally I think it will need to be cut out and then I'll need to cut out the same bit from a stripped car that is still in good condition as a replacement piece. The sooner I do it the less they will need to cut out. But I'm no expert :dunno: will see what happens.

Oh... and here is a clip I put together of the exhaust. The clip makes it sound much louder than what it really is. In fact, I think it sounds like a mustang in the clip, but you'll get the idea :thumb:

haha, thanks :thumb:

So I got the car back (Finally!) after work on Tuesday. The battery was flat even though the mechie did drive the car a bit earlier on Tuesday. It's a great feeling having the V8 rumble back. :)

I'm not impressed with the new clutch though.

I actually prefer the dark, almost black wood gear surround currently in your car.
Isn’t it supposed to have a tag stating no 9/72?

I actually don't know. One of the previous owners stuck some sort of carpet on my original surround as it apparently scratches like crazy. See below:

Oh yeah....
That looks less than attractive

It's not that bad and I can put stuff like my phone there while if it didn't have the carpet I couldn't put anything there and then it would just be wasted space.

The problem with fitting the M5 surround is that my car has a ASC button in the way:

I've put my phone and some keys on that piece, first time you go near the accelerator everything ends up on the rear shelf :fencelook:

For the most part I don't have that problem, but I think it's the carpet that's helping. Things will go sliding under the seats if I really stick it though.

Can the surround be painted if a second hand one is used ? I know of one in a scrapyard in East London , think it is a light colour . Mine is dark brown ( Ebony ? ) , nearly black .
Can go look if someone is interested .

Are you talking about the M5 surround? They are covered in leather so you can just redye the leather to whatever color you need. I believe they only came in gray, black, and champagne. I think there might have been 2 different types of gray though, not sure.

I'm not looking to buy one right now anyway and as in my post above, I'm on a tight budget this month. In fact, I have expensive plans for next month as well for the 540.

So ever since I got the 540 the phone kit bothered me and I wanted it out. The phone doesn't work anyway even though the previous owner said it did.

Problem was that I had no real idea how it was connected and what I needed to do to get it out, but about 2 weeks ago the wire for the mic came loose and was hanging a bit from the roof. So this past Saturday is was time to get it out. It was actually a lot easier than I thought.

The problem:

Work in progress:

Mic removed:

Result:

Just want to say thanks to Rick for giving me the bit of plastic I needed to fill the gap left by the removal of the holder from the dash. If you ever need an extra pair of hands, you know who to call :thumb:

I will be on leave from this weekend... or more like I don't need to be in the office, but still on standby. So I might tackle the faulty air vent system. Most of the air is blowing out between the firewall and the rest of the dash. I have NO air going through the channels that go to your feet. The flaps work, but there's just no air. There is air coming out at the windscreen and the vents that blow in your face, but it's maybe at half strength at best. Something must be broken, but I might need to pull the entire dash. If I do decide to do it, I will take some picks and post it up.
