Ettiene's 330i

Everyone speaks about the 328i headers on a 330i, but I have two points in my mind:

1. The 328i headers were designed to work on a 141KW motor and the 330i is 170KW, it just doesn't make the most sense, logically, to me.

2. These headers are getting on in age, what is the likelihood that they will last much longer? I've seen my fair share of these headers in rough shape. Sure, you could have them ceramic coated, but that is an additional cost and added work.

I had Abel build me a system in April last year, branches and a full stainless exhaust. Honestly speaking, the best mod I ever did on my e46. I enjoy the tone every time I get into the car..

My thoughts exactly.

Will order headers through Axis and have a system build up from them back.

BTW - I have removed cats from 2 petrol BMWs with close to 200k on the clock, and the cats were not blocked. Made no difference in power whatsoever. It only sounded like crap afterwards.

This!....

What I think works well from what Gizmo told me is a E36 328i header on the 330i, That way your still getting a proper BMW built exhaust which should still retain the correct back pressure.

I got a set of 328i headers for my 330i, and ended up giving them away.
Its the ugliest, worst looking cast for an exhaust I have seen in years.
Dont even bother.

What I might do in future is to simply cut off the cats in the manifold, and fit resonators where the cats used to be. That should keep the nasty rasp in check, and should flow better if the cats are blocked.

Rasp for the win, don't listen to this oke :tease:

Yea I also don't dig it. When the New M's went onto the dyno I wanted to walk out cause it sounded like they were broken and it was piercing sounds where I had to block my ears. Horrible sounds those cars make.

Ag its all personal preference at the end of the day lol. I love the smooth deep note the 330i makes. To go and chop and change that and put some 1 day exhaust shop jobbie in place of what BMW has spent millions on and years designing just kills the car for me but at the end of the day we all like what we like lol :dunnoanymore:

Most of the new turbo cars sounds the same.

To decat is not changing the car, it is just breaking emissions laws, cause greenies ask for it not BMW.

But each to his own, even if his ears might be broken :tease:

So it seems that I must start buying some suspension bushes, dampers and various other related parts.
Cars handling has definitely gotten worse the last 2kkm.

Open to suggestions...

Speak to Sean, I am very happy with my Koni Str & H&R sport setup. Mix of poly and rubber bushes on my e46
How is the handling compared to the M sport setup? Stiffer or more less the same?

I have not driven a m sport in while, however the car is quit stiff.

Where do you stay, maybe we can meet up and then compare?

I had a Renault Meg Cup and that ride was just about right, ie stiff as a bord and would like the beemer to be better than that.
Not bone jarring but direct and composed.

I think the main reason for choosing the 328 headers is that it is catless. But the downpipes still need to be fabricated.

I ran the 328 headers with great results. 117wkw stock and 121wkw after headers decat and full exhaust.

The exhaust time was great. The secondary cats were replaced with round resonators the middle box was changed from a 200 to 300. And the rear was a 500 oval

The 328 headers is also a cheaper yet effective alternative in my opinion. But as you say, getting a set today might be hard.and a complete set of headers with manifold to flange sounds like a more viable option...

A bit wide ha ha.

Go the Koni/H&R route then with some poly. It is stiff

I would stick with rubber components on a daily.

Also, the Sachs dampers are very well priced so consider those as well. (OEM)
