Japan auto m54b30 is R29500. Add another 15k for all new gaskets, service items, MAF, water pump, thermostat and hoses. Cleaning cleaning cleaning! Both engine and engine bay must be spotless! Then the labour to install, I'm not sure what I will charge as I have never worked out the hours spent doing a motor swap. It's time consuming doing it without taking any short cuts. Ideally you want to do as much on the motor as possible while it's out on the engine stand as it's very easy to work on when it's not in the car.

Thanks for that. Perhaps I should look out for a smashed e39 m5 and do a full transplant! Just need the mirrors and cosmetically it will be there lol

My dad also had a 2001 525i touring which he wanted to convert to 540i touring, he even bought a 540i sedan as a donor vehicle for the swap. Sadly, I never got round to doing the conversion for him and he sold all his e39s, bought a 2015 x3 3.0d msport and retired down to George.

Would love to build a M5 touring, although I would have a hard time giving it back when she is finished.

Small update: Fitted a 330i cluster face (silver rings) to the original cluster and added a working CD shuttle that was gathering dust.

Thanks for the compliments. It's funny, this is the first car I have owned where I said from the beginning that it will stay stock, it turned out being the fastest build I have ever done. I have only owned her 4 weeks now, lol.

I picked up a M sport steering wheel from a scrapyard today, it's in average/fair condition and needs a proper cleaning! Tomorrow the car goes to the agents for the two front airbag recalls. Now that's timing!

Driver's round one has been recalled too.

My white touring went in a few months back for the passenger side and last week for the driver's side.

That is quite the stroke of luck, actually would love to get my hands on one! Car is coming along brilliantly :clapper: Out of curiousity what did the steering wheel set you back?

Now all you need to complete the package is some new wheels on it. These were on my Touring, the tyres have 3000km on them and the set of 5 is for sale:

I have style 42's which in my opinion are the best looking 16" wheel for this car. I would be interested in the tyres though if you willing to split.

Would love to get my hands on an M-sport steering wheel like that. Car looks great, Gizmo. Please forward any leads if you come across another m-sport steering wheel like that, R700 is a deal!

I found that one at 700, doesn't mean I will find more at that price. Was the only one at that yard.

I would genuinely like to visit your place one day. I love swinging a spanner, but I generally only get to work on my friends' daily drives.

And I work in the yard. #Front yard mechanic.

Thank you, you are welcome to come shoot the shit per-say. Please tell me you have a trestle under the car when you use those jacks, seen far too many of those midas cheapies failing after a couple months use. I actually have a graveyard of all those dead jacks that have died on me over the years. The only one that has lasted has been the 2post lift.

Good man! I see so many risking their lives under cars using a jack only. Hell, even the E36 jack has the nickname "The suicide Jack".

Alberante did my 2 airbag recalls today, was fun blowing up the driver's airbag in the veld, the soccer ball projectile went at least 50m into the air.

Yesterday, I got some highway time driving out to kempton park. Returned 7.3lt/100km with an average 129km/h, the 3.0lt with 2.5i maf and software is so frugal it's unbelievable!

Will take an airbag detonation video for the next one.

Small update, I changed out the harmonic damper and the belt tensioner pulley this morning, old one was making a noise.

Took a drive on the highway yesterday to drop off some parts at uncle Peter. Reset the lt/100km when I got on the highway by Swartkoppies in Alberton, set the cruise control to 129km/h and cruised the whole way to William Nicol drive Bryanston, took this photo as I got off the highway.

Who needs a diesel?
