That really looks awesome! Interesting to see the E90 box did not know it works on the E46!

You do indeed make it look so easy, you know your stuff! Love these threads :coolShake:

Thank you. This is my fourth 3.0i touring swap, three were E46 325i and one was a E39 525i auto. The touring being a slightly heavier body to the sedan needs more displacement to compensate for the extra weight, unfortunately the only ones sold in SA were small displacement petrol models.
There is no easier, cheaper or more reliable way than to drop in a japan auto 3.0i replacement motor into any M54 based car.

Here is a comparison between the E46 330d shifter and the E90 325i shifter.

While waiting for the propshaft, I decided to drop the rear subframe to check the condition of the mounting points, all is well.

Instead of refitting the 414 000km rear suspension, I decided to install my 100 000km rear suspension left over from my white touring build.

The propshaft comes back tomorrow, they were too busy to have it ready today. Will also do a brake fluid flush first thing in the morning.

I did a brake fluid flush this morning.

New air filter.

Propshaft came back, installed it right away.

She is driving again! :pimp:

Time for a new car, new project, new thread

Great work, well done. Makes me itch to fiddle with something again....

Motor sounds good, very quiet with the 325i exhaust. The motor comes from a 2000 330i, previous owner fitted it into a Toyota hilux and then sold it to me when he replaced it with a lexus v8. Fordkoppie was the one who notified me of its sale. I put it into my brother's 2001 525i touring and he used it for a few years, I recently built up a fresh M54B30 for my brother and swapped it in before he moved down to George.

Propshaft, welds are ugly but it feels balanced, so far. Haven't done any highways yet.

Forgot to upload these last night. I used new exhaust gaskets when I fitted my white touring's exhaust which has nice looking exhaust tips.

Propshaft fitted.

Diff oil changed. Old oil smelt bad.

Couple shots in an empty parking lot.

Fuel consumption so far, not bad.

Lastly, I picked up some Liqui Moly injector cleaner which I will use on my next full tank of fuel. I also picked up a 6spd light up gear knob from a E92 M3 and an E46 gear surround for cheap, I will stick the gear knob/leather boot to the E46 surround to make my own "E46 M3 gear knob".

Finished up with the gear knob.

Plugged into ash tray light plug.

Took the car to TWT for alignment.

There was a M3 with a remus backbox next to me, sounded good!

Awesome work gizmo.

Tell me what should I budget for you to do a 3.0 swop into my e39 touring?
