Took a drive on the highway yesterday to drop off some parts at uncle Peter. Reset the lt/100km when I got on the highway by Swartkoppies in Alberton, set the cruise control to 129km/h and cruised the whole way to William Nicol drive Bryanston, took this photo as I got off the highway.

Who needs a diesel?

I did exactly the same with my silver 330i when I once went to Vereeniging from Pretoria. Reset when getting on the highway and just glide along.

This was the result:

I have heard it said that a station wagon is a more efficient shape from an aerodynamic point of view....is this the proof of that??

This touring is still running 2.5 MAF and software, so I think that is mostly why there is a difference.

a flat rear end is not aerodynamic at all

I haven't went below 10.6l on my E46 330i, Even at driving 100km with cruise control on, How the hell do url do that! Lol

Does software really make a big difference on fuel economy?

I currently got an exhaust and decat, however even before that with the cats on and the std exhaust, I couldn't go below 10l/100km

IIRC, you have an automatic? These engines with that gearbox isn't the most frugal combination.

The figures above are manual cars. I did 6.5l/100km on a trip from JHB to DBN with my 5 speed manual, this was with some hard acceleration as well

Sunday evening was the first time I had driven this car at night on the highway, the halogen headlights are no good at all so I decided to install E46 OEM bi-xenon headlight internals into my halogen light housings. Literally a night and day difference in light focus and output.

Did some hunting today, scored a decent M-cubed trim set, 330i MAF and two original rear carpets with clips. I am happy to find two decent rear carpets because I now have a complete set of oem black carpets and clips to replace the ugly aftermarket rubber ones.

Stripping down.

Comparison 3.0i vs 2.5i.

Every now and then there is a puff of smoke on cold startup, bought a new OEM crank case vent valve to fix it.

Busy on the car now swapping parts in, trim as in 5min after getting home from the scrapyard lol. Space is tight replacing ccvv. :/

So when is the white touring for sale?

At the rate you are going on this build, it is going to overtake the other one in awesomeness

There is a Western Cape fanatic who has been pestering me to sell the silver one to him, we will see. I will sell the silver one before I sell the white one. Where else would I find another alpine white 330i msport touring?

As I suspected, the CCVV had failed. Evidence of oil in the vacuum chamber, the whole vacuum rail and all the lines. All got cleaned out using prepsol and boiling water.

MAF installed and buttoned up.

Ran diagnostics to check if MAF is good, its good!

Only fault is the recurring LCM mismatch due to previous owner replacing light control module.

One last pic of the interior with the new trim.

Took the car for a drive after finishing up, no puff of smoke on startup, yay!
The car pulls way harder throughout the rev range with the 3.0i MAF. Im sure the fuel consumption is going to go up now because the car is so much more fun to drive with the extra power. The 205's on the back are crying!

gconry18 let me know about an advert on OLX of someone selling M6 seats front and rear. Luckily, the guy was in Eikenhof which is 15km from me so I checked out the seats, they came out his own M6, offered 3k on just the front two, he accepted. Score!

They do need a seriously good cleaning though.

Coincidentally, these seats came out a white E63 M6 with a Mazda 6 rotor rotary motor. The owner's name is Kevin, he's in the black shirt in the video.

:coolShake:

That's going to make for a nice comfy daily.

The M6 build looks beastly, is it going to be a track toy?

...but who's comfy daily...?:fencelook:

I would assume its going to be a track toy given that the interior has been stripped out.

Very interesting! These seats should work well in the E46! That 6 rotor though, damn.. :praise:

On another note and I would appreciate this if you can? I would love to know the process you follow to get these seats clean as it seems worse case here: the dreaded cream seats. :=):

Dude I love your doggie. I'm a huge animal lover. Lost my Labrador nearly 3 years ago. Still miss her like crazy.

We still have our faithful nearly 10 year old Jack Russel, named Brady, and the baby of the family, 18 month old Maltese, named Miley.
