Nic_s - E34 540i 6 Speed (Update 07-08-12)

So I stepped out my 1991 318i straight into a 1996 540i 6 Speed and I was like... (#$$%!@*$%(#$%@()!)$%...AWESOME!! :excited:

This is no. 10 of 72.

I don't have proper picks yet. Will take some when I get some time.

I was told not to use the original bolts for the rear wheels as they go brittle from the constant heat and cooling from braking. That's why the rear wheel "Faces" are not fitted yet. They are in the boot and are perfectly fine. Just need bolts.

Something else I've found is that the CD Shuttle doesn't seem to work. Don't know if it's just disconnected or what. Was to dark to see last night :dunno:

The only mods seem to be the Sub in the boot and it's been decatted (Spelling?). It's soft, but gives a decent purr when you accelerate without needing to floor it. Pretty much perfect I think.
It's currently on 195*** km.

So I'm all


EDIT: I'm keeping the 318i as well.

I haven't really gone all out with it. It's just so smooth that you just feel like cruising all the time. I think I've had it up to 4k rpm last night when I took my brother for a ride. :thumb:

Congrats, Guy! Fantastic ride. I'd give a left arm for those Throwing Star/M-Tech IIs. RE the shuttle not working, is it not being picked up by the system, or is it just not playing CDs?

Talk about moving from one extreme to the other, congrats on the purchase you will def. enjoy it. These cars are certainly rewarding to drive and as for the "feel of the car" a logical progression from the E30 to its bigger brother...imp:

These cars have tons of torque, no need to rev them hard to get a move on but if you need to then its like only :excited::excited::excited:. Sometimes just for the fun of it I even find myself shifting at 2000rpm through all my gears, try it you will be surprised at how easily you pick up speed.

Wrt the shuttle the one on my car works but even the slightest bump causes it to skip, not sure if there is an issue with it or that is how they are???

The system doesn't seem to be picking it up and I can't get new CD's in it as it won't let out the case. I wondering if it wasn't disconnected to connect the sub :dunno: I will have a closer look over the weekend.

I've drove it last while keeping it under 2000 the whole time. Only gave it some stick when I had a bit of open road. I'm not used to the gear ratios and I found my self pulling gently from under 1000 in third a few times with no issues. I drive basically the same with the 318i.

I've never had a shuttle, but I've heard about people saying that they jump very easily. It's doesn't seem like there's any power going to the thing.

Bought it from Conquest, yes. Very nice guy. He even said that he might even buy it back if I ever decide to sell.

It has traction control which is staying on. I will take the car out sometime when it's nice and quiet and open her up a little.

Only tips I can give, keep her nice and under control during pulloff, otherwise the handling is supurb....

I know you said there is still some work regarding the covers on the wheels, but just keep in mind that they are designed to be left and right sides respectively.
Your right front one is the wrong way around..... it should be on the left of the car.
