M2 or M235i

Bmw get allocated a number of cars that get distributed amongst the dealerships. The first batch will be sold quickly no doubt and speculators will be speculators (like M cars before it). The first batch numbers from my experience was always set. I'm sure these cars will be pre-specced. After this depending on dealer allocations you can order as you please.

In no way is this car a limited production car like the 1M before it.

I think the limited edition talk has been confused with the ///M4 GTS. The ///M2 isn't limited edition but the ///M4 GTS is.

M2 is not limited but limited by production capacity in their Leipzig factory! They were talking about 600 cars for germany only, all signed contracts with more than 5% discount were cancelled by BMW and new ones were offered with later delivery in 2017 and 2018.

So in the end: BMW is limiting the availibility in the moment (and the next two years) to earn (more) money! Production will be stopped in 2018.

I read that its production life is to 2020 with a rumoured LCI in 2018.

It's so pretty... I think it fixes everything IMO I thought was wrong with the 2 series.

Anybody heard any more info for the South African market? Price? My dealer is still clueless and I thought we might get a price after the US launch a few days ago.

To be honest, I only expect pricing once the launch in S.A happens (End Q1 Launch, Deliveries beg Q2 I think). Otherwise they'd just be spitballing!

I still say it will be priced similarly to the RS3 and A45 AMG. No limited production, as it will be produced for 5 years. The initial availability will be limited though as said previously, and once the initial demand has died down a bit, one should not have a problem getting one of these. They might even be available with x-drive, who knows...

X-Drive? Surely not on a (non-SUV) M car?
Going AWD might be the only way to keep up with the RS3 in 0-100kph terms I suppose

Agree with your other thoughts, the M2 won't totally outclass or be more powerful than the A45 or RS3 and should be priced appropriately to compete. Unless you REALLY want to be the first to drive one I wouldn't overpay either, in time the supply will meet the demand.

Now that the ex Audi boss has taken over at BMW he has hinted several times that the M division should now implement AWD on the M cars. Let's see if this actually materialize.
