i heard the M2 will not use the new B58 engine base?!? is this true! is the m3 changing to the B58 engine base

M2 will be using a beefed up version of the humble N55 as stated above. I doubt the M3/4 will change from S55 considering all the R & D they've put in to make it ///M worthy but who knows hey.

hey..at least for now its tried & tested & will be easy to mod.
Although..a B58 with higher comp, diff cams, diff intake/chargecooler & diff turbo would be very interesting!

Update for anybody interested:

Messaged above 6 BMW's last night and spoke to two of my usual dealers.

The two dealers I spoke to couldn't give me a price and said there is no price yet. Two others emailed back with 700k and 720k base price but both cannot give me a quote (The one also asked for a 20k non refundable deposit for me to get allocation number 3). The below member says his dealer asked for 950k.

Was quoted by auto alpina boksburg for the m2. Price tag will be around R950K:skit: , there is only a limited amount of cars coming to SA.

So looks like with the 1m will hold value and resale above 1mill but too closely priced to the m3

I have come to the conclusion that know body actually knows the price yet. :smashScreen:I'm still holding thumbs for that 700k mark.

Sounds to me like BMW SA will only know pricing once actual orders for S.A open.

Guys its easy....

The car is sold in Europe for 63,000.- Euro. Taking the actual exchange rate of 15 Rand per Euro (it.s slightly above 15...) is ending up for sure higher than 900,000 Rand.....

I just cant believe it being that expensive. that would put it almost 200k more expensive than its direct rival the CLA45 AMG. Not sure what the price of a RS3 is yet. and also the base price is 56700 euro not 63000 euro.

but I guess it all doesn't matter with our crazy exchange rate. I'm still waiting a few months holding thumbs :hammerhead:

I did a little experiment today since I found a European M2 configurator online with prices.

Used a base M2 with black paint to get a euro price of 58500 (R880 000).

I then did the same with an M3 and got the euro price, coverted it over to rand and then made the same M3 on our local configurator (base with black paint) and got the difference in price between the euro M3 and SA M3. I did the same with the M4, M5 and M6 to get an average.
The average difference worked out to be 170 000 more in euro. Thus I minused that off the converted euro M2 price to get an estimated SA M2 price of 710 000 (base in black).

That puts it right there with its two competitors; Audi RS3 (710 000) and CLA45 AMG (720 000)

Good idea, but you should have taken the percentage of the differences, built an avaerage and reduce the european M2 price....I think that is lower than what you did

I did that and got about a 12 percent average difference which put the car at 760 000. The exchange rate is going mad though, weakening by the day so it is not helping the pricing. But to keep it competitive with the RS3 and CLA45, the base won't be above 800k

there is no way it will be that price...it won't be under R800k

Spoke to a BMW Genius today and said that BMW SA as mentioned that they would like to bring in the country at below 700 even with less extras standard but with the price increase of 7 percent in Jan, will be just over 700. Believe it or not 1M base were 560K or something, even though everybody believed they were over 800k. Hugely inflated by resale.

Yeah I do believe that and that why it's makes sense for it to be 700, it's filling the gap between the m235i and the m3, m4. So then spec it high and yes it will be over 800. Same with the 228i, fully spec it and then u start looking at the base of a 235i.

///M2>///M235i, when in doubt always choose ///M car. You can find a better deal if you wait because when the ///M2 releases the prices of the ///M235i will drop a bit because it will be a year older or someone will trade their ///M235i in for an ///M2. From what I've read about the ///M2, it's been properly built by the ///M division and the ///M235i will never give you the same experience in stock form. So go ahead and wait, the end result will put a much bigger smile on your face.

///M Power for the win...

Please let that genius and BMW know that some of us love good value. I'd love more stuff standard

Didn't they already do the same thing with the M235i? I thought it looked like excellent value.... until you realised the "standard" features are the windshield and the air inside the cabin

I believe that most car companies here is SA are trying to bring there cars in at reasonable sticker prices for the market but since the rand is so weak, they have to compensate for it by making less items standard and more items optional. The cars prices skyrocket with all the extra options especially Mercedes.

I know that high end companies like Ferrari are making everything optional (including Ferrari badges in certain places) so that they can charge more for the optional items that should be standard.

no..since we can't import cars like in other countries..we don't have much of a choice with car prices. so we bend..trust me
