M2 or M235i

Hello 2 fanatics

This is my first post here on the forums so let me introduce myself, my name is Josh and I drive a 2011 e82 black 125i.

My baby beemer's will turning 5 next year march where the warranty will end and her life with me will end as I shall be trading her in.

I have been searching for an upgrade for a few months now which is was difficult since in my opinion the 1 series coupes where the best looking beemers around. Finally settled on the m235i after the looks slowly grew on me the bang for buck was way better than for example a Mercedes A45 or Audi s3. I managed to get a great price for a bran new manual version with basically all the M-performance upgrades for around 690k.

Then came along the M2 and damn, I absolutely LOVE it.

Now here is my problem:
I would order an M2 basically stock (not interested in all the gadgets and powerseats or whatever) and the rumored prices around the world put the M2 in a range of i believe 700 - 800 k. I can push my budget slightly but not over 800k.

This leaves me with two options: Order the m235i now because the M2 will be too expensive and/or the availability is low or wait for next year to order the m2 (Keeping in mind that there will be a large price increase across the bmw range in Jan and I will loose the great deal I got on the m235i + I have to wait longer). Adding that I need to trade in my car before march to keep a decent trade in value.

Any advice is welcomed or even tips about the pricing or availability or when either will become accessible. I have spoken to numerous bmw dealers but each one gives me a different answer and nobody can give me a price.

Regarding your problem....I hear you bud. It's a very difficult predicament.

another option is to maybe extend your plan for another year.not lose so much on your 125, cos cars under plan always keep value a little better. And not buy the 235i now cos that will lose lots in depreciation.

Wait another year and go straight for the m2, which we all are gonna want to have when it comes out. Even if you have a 235/240, you still gonna want to get the m2.

The money you would have saved by not losing it on the 235's depreciation can be put towards that m2 budget :=):

Welcome to the forum, Josh. I'd wait it out until the M2 releases. If you decide to get the M235i now, you'll regret it when you start seeing M2's in the flesh.

Hey man

The M2 doesn't have that much more over the M235i, go look at the specs and compare the two.

The base model of the M2 will be really expensive and if you can pick up a kitted M235 then why not.

Also, you can send it to BMW approved AC Scnitzher at jsn and you'll never lose plan if you have the cash for those kinds of mods.

I heard BMW does remaps and so on as well. That's what I'm doing to my M235i.

Otherwise after a year or two you could just get plug and play and a jb4 with downpipe and it will be golden but the jb4 set up will void warranty.

Sorry to say but you can not compare the M with the m235i AT ALL! These are two completely different cars....Is the 1M also nearly the same like a 135i?

Chosse what you need and enjoy them, they are both good cars! but for different people I think...

BMW has showed us that they produce some of the best cars to have ever graced the planet when donned with a true M badge. Look at the current M3, M4, M5 and M6. These cars are class leaders and are defining their respective performance motor vehicle sectors. With the 1M in its lineage, it's difficult to believe that the M2 will be anything but brilliant.

If you don't wait, you'll be kicking yourself after seeing the M2 on the road. The M2 is a proper M car, unlike the 235i. If you have the means to buy an M car over a normal model, you buy the M car, end of story! :rollsmile:

On a serious note, if you can afford it, go for the M. You will just end up loosing money to buy the M2135i and then selling it again for the M2, as you will always believe you should have waited.

Absolutely. Can any of you think of a "bad" M car? I certainly can't.

I wouldn't be contemplating anything else but the difference is that I would need a car in the new year after I trade in my car. And the rumours about the price being in a 700 to 750 know zone are the reason I can afford the M2. If it is over 800 then I won't bother. And the 700 to 750 zone seems very reasonable because it's right in the middle of a m235i and a M4.

I:sorry: it's more of a price estimate that I need to ensure that waiting for it will be worth it. I have no doubts in my mind that the M2 will be one of the best bmw's around.

Look, this is definitely one of the best problems I've had in my life and defiantly #firstworldproblem:rollsmile:. I would be extremely grateful and happy with either car.

It just a matter of knowing that if I pay for the m235i now and find out in 2 or 3 months that I could have bought a M2. But on the flip side if I wait and I can't, I will be wasting money with the increase next year that's apparently surpossed to he large. :thumbdo:

Why not consider a 1M? Or alternatively, there are a few M5's that can be had for sub R800k at the moment....... unfortunately the Current M3/M4 used prices are still hovering in the R900's but I am sure they will be in the R800k region in 2016...
