Help me understand MHD data log

I do want the car running 100% before attempting any modding but yes, I understand that relying on these logs doesn't seem to be the route I must follow to try figure out what is happening.

Those other items are actually things I could check as well. Completely forgot about them.

As for the carbon build up, I read the N55s are less prone to this and many suggest the walnut blasting about about 160 000km so I was going to wait.

Also, wouldn't blocked cats the throwing a code?

Not necessarily, They would need to be seriously blocked up to throw a code I would imagine.

Yours may be blocked up just enough to rob you of some ponies though.

I had a look at this earlier this morning and its quite a good explination on waste gate duty cycle and also goes into how a catalytic converter contributes to flow and wgdc etc.

BSD (Bit Serial Data). It's the single wire bus that runs between alternator, electric water pump and the oil level sensor, to the ecu. If any of those break, it pulls the whole bus down. Usually caused by faulty water pump or busted alternator.

Just to confirm, is this the BSD you were talking about (image below)? I see it is exposed in my engine bay as the plastic around that area has broken off. Also two thin wires run along with it.

I only ask cause I got the BSD errors again today. My water pump was being noisier than usual and turned on again after the car was switched off.

On top of that, I got 290A (intake air temp sensor: multiple fault) code which I cleared and became 29D0 (intake air temp sensor, electrical: short to B+). I also read that 29D0 is a misfire on cylinder 4. Car was driving fine though. Cleared the errors couple more times and then it was gone plus the other others.

Tell me something guys, my timing in cylinder 2,4,6 is being pulled back a couple degrees.
I thought it was due to the MHD map that I loaded being too aggressive and the octane not being high enough, I went back to look at my stock logg and the timing is also being retarded.
I know my O2 sensor is not happy and that is getting changed tomorrow. Would the bad o2 sensor be the culprit here?

sorry to hijack your thread, but it is relevant to MHD data logging :)

Yessir. Purple wire is BSD.

Oh bugger. Bigger one seemed to be the easier job.

Is this easy to replace? I am comfortable with a loose definition of "easy". I have done minor electrical fixes before. Like when the sport mode on the E90 320i auto stopped working because of fraying of the whites. That was an easy job.

You query initially seems MHD related. As far as I am concerned, the entire thread can be for all MHD related matters.

I found this document online the other day, not sure if it might provide some understanding or lead you down a path of figuring out the issue.

It's really just a piece of wire so there's nothing to it. But, to be honest, there's 3 in total on the engine bay; I'd recommend you trace all of them and only replaced the frayed parts. No need to replace all and it looking like a hack job at the end of the day. Yes, it's a bit of a kak job.

I will get the goodies to replace it soon as I can. I reckon if I don't then the MHD errors codes on DME will just become more regular and eventually cause a bigger issue.

Well, I messed that link up. I provided link to MHD Flasher guide and not the one to interpret the MHD datalogs.

Let me try that again.

haha thanks.

I see that the cylinder timing being pulled back is normal for these engines then. Obviously gets better with better fuel or an octane booster and a less aggressive map.

Would you mind sharing your logs? I want to see how it looks on another vehicle before I actually runs timing logs for mine.

yea its from MHD. a run I did last night.

You can select to show more things, I noticed that none of your cylinder corrections are being displayed at all.

corp

///Member
Yeah. My initial logs didn't have it on. I have switched on Misfires for all cylinders and timing for all cinders too but it is showing timing for CRK and not correction like yours.

goto MHD Mon > Options
then you should see: cyl1 - cyl6 timing Cor. Make sure all those boxes are checked.

Its definitely in the options.

corp

///Member
Not in my options. This is all I have showing. When I select these I get timing cylinder CRK columns.

I had a leak in the boost pipe where it connects to the turbo. The seal has been replaced and my butt Dyno says it feels slightly better (although I was driving a Kia Picanto all week and increased power is nicer) but don’t think by a lot. Will get it on a real Dyno soon to see how of much better, if any, it actually is.
