E46 ///M rod bearing failure

Vac performance coated bearings... I have em in my car. Speak to Alexander about how pristine they were after being in my car since 2010. We did a rebuild last year to strengthen my engine for boost, took out the Vac bearings and not a mark on them. Still as good as new.

Holding thumbs for you.

Under the vanos unit, on the water reservoir side there is a fairly big nut, looks like a pressure regulator of some sort. That could turn by hand and that is where all the oil came from. Will post a photo now.

Yup, just checked up on TIS. AFAIK that should be torqued to 65nm if i recall correctly. It is finger tight bro. Is it possible to lose enough oil pressure there to wreck the bearings? Suppose pulling hard in 4th and you lose oil pressure does end in this...

The chain tensioner is under immense pressure and if it were to come loose it would spray the oil pretty quickly.

If as you say it was finger tight it is likely that the bearing knock was a by product of no oil in the sump as it evacuated from the chain tensioner.

You may well be able to change bearings without removing the crank provided the journal is clean.
All the same measure it with a micrometer and look at it closely.

At least there is no hole in the side of the block, you lucky in that regard. Have Peter rebuild the motor for you, I wouldn't trust anyone else to do it.

Haha why thank you Major...

Busy pulling the sump now, will post pics a bit later.

Been tied up with work the last two days.

Crash, where can I get those VAC bearings from?

I rebuilt an S54 for boosted application with Alexander last year with all Vac motorsports internals.

As quoted by Stig46 on the the forum... the car pulls like his friend's GTR. =D Thanks Stig.

Wow that's hectic, the sound you heard was probably the chain skipping teeth? I would just go ahead and replaced the chain as well and all supporting items. I know what that can do to an engine.

Wow that's damaged, but then again, 180k on the clock and the recent oil starvation would be the main culprit. ..good luck with the rebuilt...looks like your cranks gonna need some polishing there.
