Hi guys

Thanks for all ybe replies. I took the car home I was too worried this guy tries to do more damage(if he did in the 1st place) and then gaurantee I need a new engine. unfortunarely I am in JHB (im from cpt) for 2 weeks so I can only take care of this then. I will definately look at the place in parrow when I get back.

Before replacing the radiator , wouldn't they have done a pressure test and picked up if the head gasket or maybe another gasket ? or some part had a leak? And if water was leaking into the cylinders or some part of the engine , wouldn't that oil water mixture show up in either the engine oil or the expansion tank?
I checked the oil to see if it was lighter or "milky" and the mechanic told me he did a pressure test.. thats part of why I feel like he should take some sort of responsibility but we cant point any fingers

Hey Bud, I had my engine done over last year because my oil pump had a crack and the bloody "stealers" couldn't find the problem and also wanted to replace the head/whole engine for a 100k....
anyways, I took the car to a mate of mine who did pretty much the whole engine over and kept the parts that had no damage (block etc) , so with machining, engineering etc the bill came to just over 30k. So if you want to keep your engine and replace the damaged bits, speak to Charl at Century Auto Clinic in Parow.
good guy and doesn't bullsh!t you.
Definately will check him out thanks

Please get a second opinion, but a very important question, what did the temperature guage read, was it ever near or in the red for a long time?

Radiator replaced and now blown engine, really? Sounds like this mechanic saw a fat cow and is now trying to milk you.

Are you in GP, then I can swing by and take a look for you for free.
Wish I was so I could get someone to just take a look.. thank you for the offer

My E46 overheated past the halfway mark twice, once from a failed belt, second time from a failed fan, your engine is NOT blown, this guy is Bullshitting you, you pulled over quick enough, just like I did.

Take the car to Brilliant Mechanical Workshop or Garage 808.

Tell them I sent you

If they say you need a new engine believe it and ask them to source one for you.

If the engine went just over half it is not likely that it has damage

So I took it for a second opinion and the camshaft cracked. I dont know wjat im talking about but the mechanic (2nd opinion) as well as a machanic I spoke to when this happened have both suggested that the original guy I took the car to drained my oil out and let me drive it like that because it stopped the next day. So apparently once you pull the engine out there will probably be more damage and cost more than just putting a new engine in?

When you drove the car, did you see an oil light come on? Perhaps the original guy used the wrong type of oil?
