Waiting for tyre quotes at the moment. Falken don't do the narrow and wide combination in one make:( So going with Conti Sport Contact 3s... I think.

Same here. Falken ZE912 at the front and FK453 at the back.

Hi Pi

How is does that combination feel?

Steve

Feels fine for me, but I tend to take it slower these days. Most of the time, at least.

New tyres today. Conti Sport Contact 3. Fantastic tyres. And extremely progressive. To the point where the nanny state kicks in later than with the old almost baldies.

I was actually getting a tyre defect warning the last couple of days!!

Thanks for the pics Philip... thank the lord that bonnet is no longer!!

YW! Yep, I remember that was one of the first things you set about attending to!

I had a replacement bonnet in the garage for ages. Long story short, someone took it for a "test drive" and the bonnet was not latched down, luckily it only damaged the bonnet. So... I already had the bonnet, the guily party footed the paint bill...

So just did 1400km trip up to Felix Unite on the Orange River... and... I thought this car was good and I have not done a long trip before now. Now I think it is just a sublime car/ driving experience. I could have driven a lot further, I was so comfortable the whole way. Needless to say overtaking was effortless.

One gripe is it needs bluetooth. I missplaced teh CD casette when I was packing so I had FM to listen too... Sunday in the Northern Cape is Boer Orchestra tyd. So there is me tapping my foot to some strabgling a cat with an accordion.

The trip up was... , um, hurried as I was running late. Consumption 14.8 l/100km. The trip back was at 129km/h and I don't dally when overtaking, average 13.3l/100km. Computer consumption is spot on with full tank to full tank calculation.

Also very small speedo error against the GPS speed.

Nice! I don't think my M5 ever saw those consumption figures!

It sits at 18.8 as my long term average, mostly urban driving. I drove to Long market street the other day and made a piont of driving like a granny. Parow to City Centre was 12.5, then getting lost and looking for parking had it at 14 then by the time we made it out in slow traffic back to Parow it was at 15.8 (I also tired of driving like a granny about half way back).

On another note, my faulty fuel gauge seems to have sorted itself out. Next break I will run it to empty to check.

Thats no way to describe the M5 exhaust note. :tease::=):

The more I read and watch videos about the M5, the more I decide I need one!

Of course ///M cars don't have the econometer, instead has the oil temperature gauge, because oil temperature is more important than how fast the fuel is being burnt (literally)! But I am sure it would be similar to what I see typically - the moment you are driving at low speed, the fuel consumption is high! If you are at a higher speed (within speed limits though), then the fuel consumption is a lot better, especially in the taller gears. The problem is, with that engine note, driving in a restrained manner takes way too much discipline!!

On a long trip, the exhaust is a bit much. The drone is abit like water torture. Instantly cured by putting foot to overtake a truck and you get that tuned V8 sound...

GPS mysteriously has a 240km/h max speed showing. No idea how that happened.
