BuildaBeemer: Building a BMW E46 Track Car

Argh!!! Going MAD not being able to get out & race! But probably a small potato in the Big Scheme of Things.
Good news though - we received the diff. At last...!
Stand by the the diff swap write up or vid these weekend.

Awesome stuff! I'm assuming the diff is off a X3 2.5i.
Keen for the DIY vid, interesting to see the different techniques. Ive seen people pull the diff out without moving the subframe.

gosh loving this thread,

keep it up guys, well done !!! :)

Time we built our track car. =)
Damn right - just do it!  This is one of our key objectives: to illustrate that building and racing a BMW is not as elusive or exclusive as we tend to believe.  The guys who race come from all walks of life: big cheque-book guys, budget boys, experienced racers, enthusiastic rookies, engineering geniuses and technophobes.  If you want it, you can do it - there's no shortage of help and advice to be had.

Tjo.. Watching this brings back memories of what a ballache of a job this is.

I was lucky enough to have a stronger rand at the time and put turner motorsports reinforcement plates in the rear of my e46 M3. Just for good measure, we got a Reddish motorsports designed Vince Bar welded into the boot with bolts securing the boot floor and subframe from the top.

Good work and best of luck for Practice / the Race. Cannot wait to watch the onboard video!

I love watching these videos, some of the better DIY stuff I've seen. Maybe it's because of the vernacular, maybe the temperament..

Well done and keep it going guys.

Some exciting news!

Courier updated us that our parcel was received at the JHB branch.

They're going to verify this for us, and if indeed correct, we'll collect the poly bushes and get cracking with the install and re-assembly!
