BMW Powerkit 135, 335

Anybody considering this kit ? BMW SA said they would be doing a launch thing aimed at all the 135 and 335 drivers soon. The parts guy estimated 27K including vat and fitting, not much of a power gain for the money, but I like the idea of additional cooling, with spirited driving here in sunny SA my car's temp always goes way up.

"The BMW Performance power kit for the BMW 335i and BMW 135i further enhances your vehicles, already impressive engine output. The key to its effectiveness is the way that all the components have been designed to work together. The modified engine tuning parameters mean the engine generates higher temperatures, and so an additional radiator and air intakes, and a powerful 850-watt fan have been incorporated to deal with this extra heat. The effect that these modifications have can be seen in the graph. The maximum torque of the in-line six-cylinder engine is increased from 400 to as much as 450 Newton-metres, depending on the type of transmission, and power output rises from 225 to 240 kW. This improves acceleration both from 0 to 100 km/h (by 0.2 seconds over models without the power kit) and from 80 to 120 km/h (by 0.5 seconds in fifth gear)"

Theres another guy.. The parts are on its way.

Have they indicated that they will sell the cooling parts seperate? That might be around 5-10k?

I think 645 has the right idea, Cooling kit only. Getting a chip on the side from some one else will get you much bigger gains and the cooling kit will make sure the engine doesnt go poof :p

I have just order the kit and have a 4 week waiting period for the coding to be done in Germany and the kit to be delivered to CT.....:cursin:

Will let everyone know what my personal feelings on the kit are once it has been installed.

What has been the groups experience with after market performance maps available for a 135i? I am very weary about warranty and Motorplan issues associated with installing non BMW maps!

@ ScuNick...Look forward to your review. My kit also arrived at the dealer but i have put it on hold untill i know my OWN chip would still be able to work...if not then i will not install the bmw kit...i have been told that i will get my old DME back after the new DME and hardware has been installed...i need to clear the following: 1. Can i piggy on the new DME? 2. Can my car live without the new cooling hardware? 3. What other mods could i consider in the place of the bmw performance kit for (that) price of R30 000 + price of airducts.

@ScuNick...what do you want to know about aftermarket maps?
To start...i have (ALWAYS) been running a chip on my cars...all of them...whether piggyback or software...for many years now...never had a problem with my cars or warranty issues ever. Two cars are out of warranty and still no issues related to the tunes. And i have changed my tunes/chips over the years untill i settled with the tune over which i have the most control...@ the moment it has to be JB3 from BMS.

yip, thought i could get the hardware only...but if we wait a while longer we can get the parts via the US...the airducts for example can be purchased seperately...but for what gains?

I have had some "interesting" results from maps including a motor that popped (ring glands sheered right off - motor leaned out and BOOM) after a map was installed and was wondering what the experience has been with this motor. I know, just by watching my silly LED display on my Performance Steering wheel that the water temp is an issue. Sit in traffic and the temperature rockets!... this is why I believe BMW have specced the change in cooling with the implementation of the map. For me the cooling becomes a pre-requisite prior to installing any new maps... (once bitten twice shy).

hear you...safety first.
You know your car better than anyone...all cars are different whether we think otherwise...like your idea, stick with your modding plan.
