Stock Ecu does not cause any of those things... Me suspect you just want more power!! I decided to work toward a well running car before trying to get more power out of it.

RTFM has its advantages.

I shall be sure to apply that dictum next time.

Call me an old fart if you will but I do believe that the OEM Bosch system is ideally suited and by all accounts slightly more economical.

Starting to agree Peter. She is running better now and the idle is rock solid. I have a suspicion that when you replaced cracked/perished pipes and manifold the vacuum system was altered significantly hence shit running. I am going to continue to mess around this week and see what I can do.

Right, to quell the nagging I had Helga washed and waxed this morning with a little leather treatment. Days like this I heart my Shark :inlove:

Note the new lights, wheel covers and unbutchered center console!

I am sure that I saw this car two weeks ago on uranium road in Fourways next to the car wash, i think it was a saturday and I stood by the car for a while waiting for the owner but didnt see anyone?

Doubt it. I don't venture into that part of the world.

Don't cry Matt, She'll be right soon enough. This is just an expensive learning curve. Helga will be back on track in a few weeks. :=):

Head is sorted, seats, eccentrics, head bolts, guides blah blah blah.
Head back on tomorrow. Then we'll see if the beast runs properly.

Glad to see you got the head repaired after the incompetent "he who shall not be named" F'ed it up for you. I hear he did a number on your wiring harness too...Anyway, I hope you are going to throw away that Shitronics POS and go with decent OEM stuff so your car never see's another cowboy again...
Hope to see her running soon.

Right car is sorted and pulling like a freight train again.

After we spent Friday night putting the car back together it was still running like a dog, same symptoms as before.

Props to my mate Warren at One Stop Workshop in Fonteinbleau for sorting it out.

It was a dirty injector on No.5 that caused lean running and consequent dog shit performance. An R8000 lesson in 'opinions'.

Big updates coming soon.

New wheels arrived from Germany. Cost almost as much as the bloody car but the sexiest wheels on the planet. Only problem is that the offset is too low at the back. Muppet who sold them said ET15 but they're actually ET4!

Now the back tyre rubs the arch. Still sexy as fuck though.

I have been thinking about how to alleviate this.

1. Thicker ARB to stop body roll.
2. Stiffer rear shocks
3. Fender Pull
4. Rolled Arches (Not a fan)
5. Increase rear camber (Welding and tyre wear)
6. Machine Disc hats to increase Offset

I am thinking of doing 1. and 2. anyway and 6. seems the best option but I would welcome opinions.

Wheels are 17x9J ET9 up front and a massive 17x10.5J ET4 rear. Tyres a little stretched but fine.

The wheels are Folger Cup4, 3 piece forged, they weigh the same as my 8/9J Forged 'Throwing Stars' Car feels seriously planted and the ride is a little softer for some reason.

Look at that DISH!!! :inlove:

Do you really need 10.5 inches in the back? By the looks of the stretched tyre on there, you don't. Instead of spending tonnes of money modifying the car to fit the wheels, rather modify the wheels to fit the car. Take 1 inch out of the outer dish, that will increase the ET which will clear the arches and your tyre will fit the wheel better.

hey bro.

Glad you got it all sorted out after all the hassles... old cars and modifications can often be a real pain in the ass...

My suggestion is to get the spitronics tuned again as the faulty injector was probably doing a serious number on the co's hence all the bad tunes.

I have fitted loads of these on cars that are used in many many different driving conditions ranging from race/weekend car to cars used every day
including my own car and i can honestly say that they dont give hassles. I have had 2 cars burn out the coil drivers and both of them had resistance that was out of manufacture spec (both E30's)

I apologize for anything I have done that is not correct and I am willing to sort it out if you so wish. But like i say to all of my clients, please bring the car back or let me know if there are any issues so that we can sort them out. (school fees paid I guess).

The only advice that I can give you right now is to stick to 1 mechanic/tuner as everyone has a different style and approach and by chopping and changing between them all you end up with is 10 guys trying to redo everything that the last guy did...

Well! As with all things in life the application of Occam's razor is normally the best....

I removed the rear arch extensions and gained about 6mm clearance, no more rubbing. Can't believe BMW would screw the things in, very ugly. I have slight poke now but will cut and silicon the arches on for a better look and to avoid having them as horrible rust traps.

Guys as an afterthought for what it is worth

The aftermarket ecu boxes at R5000 will not and cannot provide a car with the complete range and flexibility of operation that is required.
Aftermarket ecu manufacturers who are worth anything charge as much for their hardware software as the dealers do and in many instances double as much as the oem market demands.......

Anyone who claims that an aftermarket inexpensive system will have the same results as the big boys and the oem market is not occupying stable ground.

I have purposefully not named any of the Big aftermarket ecu manufacturers as this is not an advertising plug for any one of them.

Quality is never by accident.

Random Hot/Cold cut outs were solved with the Spitronics. My loom was shagged I think.

Yes it did actually. Had I not fitted the Spitronics my head wouldn't have been fucked via 3 different clueless dyno people.

So far I CANNOT recommend Spitronics to anyone. The only problem I've solved (Caused by Spitronics) is the over heating. It still

1. Overfuels (20l/100km) Mapped THREE times!!! still shit

2. Idles like a tractor and way too erratic

3. Kangaroos all over the place at low revs.

I don't doubt that on flat out racers or simple 4 cylinder cars it works but I think it is too simple for even this old straight 6.

I am taking her to Shaun on Friday to see if he can sort out the thing and if not I will return to OEM and piggyback with WB lamda.

Having seen how OMEX, Haltec and even Megasquirt work I tend to agree. I researched the local guys Dicktator, Go-tek and Spitronics and the Spitronics got the best local reviews but I hadn't seen the interface (My fault) It is simplistic and has no where near the 3D mapping sophistication of the others, PerfectPower is the only 'local' product that is truly globally recognised. I should have dug a little deeper!

Our "local is lekker" ecu manufacturers produce a very basic product for their target market which is for basic motors ie old golfs and opels which have like only 3-4 sensors on the entire motor.
When it comes to BMWs which have 3 times more sensors (even from the '80's) designed to run perfectly in all sorts of situations and you try fit a cheap product designed for a citi golf or opel, you going to fall flat on your face! BMW with all its sensors needs a quality ECU to run correctly, South Africa has yet to build a quality ECU so until such time its better you do your ECU shopping from Australia, Europe or the States...
I don't think you should waste another cent on trying to make the shitronics work for you, no matter how much fettling you do, the product is not designed for your application and will never work 100% on your motor. You can polish a turd but its still a turd...
