Hi there fanatics.

Admittedly I've neglected this thread for far too long. So what has been happening?

Since installing the power upgrades ie, exhaust and air filter the bike actually lost 10Hp down from 206 to 196. But it was quite evident why, monitoring AFR on the dyno we found that the bike was leaning out on high RPM. Probably caused by much better airflow in the higher RPM range. Needless to say this was quite a disappointment.
I took it out on track once in this configuration and despite the power loss overall the bike did not disappoint. It is such a lovely smooth easy almost effortless bike to ride on track. And I was loving the new suspension.

A few days after that outing I got my hands on a Rapid Bike Smart piggy back unit which is specifically designed for the EU5 BMW S1000RR as well as the BMW R1250 GS. I installed the unit and went straight back to the dyno. With the base map which is on the unit the bike gained 12HP bringing the power to 208HP and a 2HP nett gain. It even added a few ponies in the lower and mid range. I was so happy I didn't even fiddle with the map any more, so I think there is still a bit to be gained, but I couldn't wait to get it on track again. Torque was also up considerably from 123Nm stock to 127Nm with the rapid bike.

My first track outing was also still with road gearing, and I have since converted to a 520 chain with a 15 tooth front sprocket and I got various rear sprockets to be able to change gearing based on which track I'm riding.

Second outing on track was last week Wednesday, 2nd of march. More fun could not be had with your clothes on. The 12 extra horsepower and the shorter gearing turned this baby into nothing other than a full blown race weapon. The electronics had its hands full fending off wheelie and wheelspin. The stock electronics are insanely good for a road bike but still just ever so slightly too invasive for my taste. This was not bothering me that much, but as my pace quickens back to my old race pace it will start becoming an issue. Hopefully by that time the ECU security will have been cracked so that it can be addressed.

One of my good friends who owns a 2020 S1000RR with about R600k worth of extras on was also there on the day. At the end of one session we had a bit of a roll race on the back straight and I was chuffed that my little RR that could stuck with him all the way. I wasn't catching him and he wasn't leaving me either. His bike is fitted with the complete Alpha Racing race ECU, subframe, rearsets, harness, Motech dash, Ohlins suspension, and the list goes on almost indefinitely.

Very much looking forward to our next track outing and getting to grips with this amazing machine.

Thank you very much, I recently bought a GoPro Hero8 from a technologically challenged friend who bought it and couldn't operate it, so next time I'm on track I will definitely take some videos. Hoping to go again next week some time.

Nice man that will look epic. I actually bought the GoPro 10 black last week to record some flights and a few drives etc, such a cool thing to have for stuff like this. Looking forward to the vids man.

Flights??? You're a pilot? Professional or recreational?

GoPro's are so cool, if you remember to pack and use them, that's always my problem. Always forget it at home.

Yup Flights :) I am doing my pilot license at the moment, will be trying to change career, so PPL, CPL and ATPL.

Yup, took mine on my last flight, put the insta360 on the wing using the gopro suction cap and put the GoPro inside the aircraft, The insta360 died as I took off, We spent a while on the ground doing SOP's as I hadn't flown for a while so had to brush up on stuff The GoPro overheated as it needed to be set to tripod mode for times where there is no airflow over it :( Will try again on tomorrows flight lol. Missions!

Update

Not much has changed on the bike apart from getting the tuning on the Rapid Bike Smart dialed in properly. The bike now delivers 211 Hp and I forget how much torque. I'll fish out the dyno chart tomorrow and post it, but the bike honestly feels amazing. I'm getting to grips with the stock electronics, sussing out the strengths and weaknesses. For a factory bike the electronics are sublime and one would need to spend in the range of R180k to upgrade to a Alpha Racing Race ECU to get anything better. The only thing I would change about the stock electronics is to sharpen up the throttle at lean. I can feel how the power comes in waves as I stand the bike up out of a corner, ideally I would like it a little more aggressive without having to stand the bike up as much, but I'm really nit picking now. The factory ABS hasn't bothered me once on track it really is the best iteration of ABS I've felt on a bike.

I've had it on Red Star twice now and and Kyalami 3 times. The last outing to Kyalami I was fortunate enough to spend some time on track with the Binder brothers. All I can say about that is WOW!!!! Those guys can ride.

Bike now has 2000kms time for the second service.

I'll leave you with a few pics of the most recent Kyalami track day. (The last pic is me and Darryn Binder)

These photos are sick! You must be having the absolute time of your life! And to get to ride with a MotoGP rider is a once in a life time experience! Well done dude!

Honestly getting to meet the Binders and spending time on track with them is the highlight of my year.
I can't take any credit for the pics there's a team that takes basically all of the bike track day pics, they've been at it for years and it shows because they make us look like rockstars :ROFLMAO:
Definitely, thrashing this bike around the track is my happy place. I can imagine it being something akin to you with the planes, maybe not physically similar but emotionally. It's the thrill and the feeling it gives you.
