BMW 135i 60 ROLL Build (THE MONSTER)

Hi, small update:

So back in January a couple of friends (Qualified mechanics and enthusiast) help me to put my motor together.

I imported a ARP Stretch gauge and a ring compressor, I bought a snap on extension for the rod bolts. we could then stretch to correct length.

This time we had all parts measured by an engineering shop and we used Plastigauge to double check (I mean we checked and checked again)

It took us two days to put the motor together, this time I used brand new Manley Rods.

Luckily I had a set of brand new rings that were gapped for the 2nd CSS Block I received as a replacement.

BMW gave me a brand new crank and I used OEM Main bearings and every other part needed besides Head studs (ARP) and Big end bearings (ACL Race bearings)

The car has done 3000km and 3 oil changes (Break in oil +120km) (Motul X-cess +- 1500km) and the car is on Motul X-cess gen 2

After initial logging on E85 we killed the clutch, I could still drive the car but could not put all the power down, I had to order a service kit from Australia through Karter performance.

The clutch required 1000km break in, that was painful.

On top of the I fitted a brand new JB4 and PI Controller, Today I upgraded the LPFP (Brand new bucket with 450 in from Precision Race works)
the car now has a 450 in the bucket and a 450 on a bracket with space for one more 450 (I have one going to test to see if it needs it)

The other major thing I did on the fueling side was to install a new filter and delete the in tank regulator, this has resulted in a 85 to 90 psi LPFP on the logs (Regulated with a AEM external boost reference regulator)

The car still needs a bit of work to finish it off but it is a monster, The turbos are in to be refreshed and try find bigger wheels then she will rock.

We had the car on E85 30 PSI 14 degree timing, Busy getting WMI to work correctly (using a external controller not a FSB)

The car will be going on sale, not because I don't want it because I am emigrating, If I don't get my price it will go with.

I think this car is fully capable of 100 to 200 in 4.5sec if I install a DCT and complete the tune

I hear you, I am just running out of time.

Last time I checked it was R27 000 for shipment, R13 000 once landed in the UK +-R5 000 to convert speedo and depending I might need to pay some import duties wont be much though.

So it might make sense to reduce what I was thinking of trying to get by 50 to 60k and letting it go:cry::cry::cry::cry:

The big problem most people do not understand what goes into a build like this, time effort, money

I used to live in the UK. Cars are very cheap there and so are car parts. It's nothing like SA. Also what ever you order you will get the next day or even the same day. If you are concerned about the car and the effort put into it, Perhaps consider just sending the engine. But again this will be easily replaced for MUCH less in the UK.

When it comes to projects like this, we get screwed every single step of the way in SA financially for parts and labor etc. You will find a very pleasant change in the UK in this regard.

Agree fully , while I was busy building my engine for turbo, I had a excell sheet to keep track with the cost, I deleted it, I just wanted to stop right there ,can't even imagine what went into yours. Hope you get sorted bud.

Long time,

Update:

So a few months ago we had problems with car not holding boost and eventually the rear turbo let go.

It snapped the turbine shaft, and MMP would not supply parts to fix ''He recons someone in South Africa'' tried to rip him off.

I decided to go single because it was the quickest way to get the car done, well I thought so.

I imported a Pulsar Turbo (Copy of the Garret G35-1050) from Australia, and found a butchered manifold in Cape Town that we sort of got sorted.

The reason for this was to ship the car to the UK.

It was a mission to say the least, we ended up finishing up a day before I had to fly and it was not done to my spec, we just ran out of time.

We even modified the steering column to get a few extra mm

That said here are some pics:

Here she is in the UK amongst a few other SA Cars

The car can drive, now I must just fix a few small things and start to tune.

What have I done LOL

I tend to disagree, I am over here and prices are ridiculous (Not cars they seem to be reasonable)

labour, parts and services are hectic

Oil change X5 R2800.00 Not at BMW at a independent
Rubber mats BMW oem R1812.00
Car wash (Wash and Dry) R240.00
Labour charge R1200 to R2000.00 per hour (This is what I have been quoted so far
Tyres are about the same
I think used parts will be cheaper engines and gearboxes

I will admit the selection is massive but 90% is online purchase so you cant touch and feel, I believe amazon is most peoples go to place and delivery is within a day or two.

The quality of products in general are much better (Food, cloths ect)

I suppose when you convert the Rand to Pound nothing will be cheap

Yea you comparing new stuff, I can't speak on behalf of buying from dealerships there. I am talking about buying parts from Ebay and Amazon. The selection as you say is absolutely massive and there is pretty much everything you could ever need or want. Yea everything is pretty much online, but the turnaround time on getting the parts is insanely quick. Basically it's just all round convenient in every possible way.

Not like here where you order a part and have to wait weeks and pay insane shipping fees etc.

Also converting from Rands is never going to end well. If you are working and earning pounds, then the prices become a whole new ball game.

Its been a very long time since I updated

So the car is back in Cape Town (UK Trip was a Total F up)

We had to rework some stuff to get the ST working.

The screamer and down pipe were a mess and still need some work but the car runs and runs well.

I had to buy a new wastegate, I got a turbo smart the ones that came with the turbo were junk.

At the same time I did some more work on the engine bay and catch can setup.

All wiring except the injector harness has been moved to the intake side of the motor, I did this for two reasons, heat and it just looks so much better.

On the catch can side I found the car runs better without the vacuum side attached and if everything vent to atmosphere but these motors breath a fair amount so I have made it that it can be connected/disconnected quickly.

We ran the car on a Pump file with E18 and WMI 1000cc (Our fuel is so kak)

514kw on the wheels and 851 NM, I believe with a better downpipe we should get another 15 to 20kw.

I am not sure if I will do a Ethanol tune, the car is wild as it is but time will tell, the car is going on sale and I will pay my tuner to do an E85 tune if the new owner wants one

Since the Dyno we adjusted the Meth to come in sooner to prevent the drop off at 4100rpm
This was at 25psi

Driving around town and in traffic the car is so easy to drive, I was surprised actually.

Those are some strong numbers!

What happened with the UK? I know you were emigrating, hence the sale of all your other e82's.

We did not get all our documents before we left (A local company screwed us)

Once we arrived we started the process to get my wife a spousal visa, unfortunately they would not allow her to apply from within the UK.

We are busy getting everything sorted now to try again, we lost big money hence the sale of the 135i.

This engine bay looks incredible. Love that Valve cover!

Really sorry about how things didn't go to plan for the UK and now it means you're going to loose this car. That is incredible saddening!
