2018 320i carbon buildup

I have a 2018 320i F30, 45000KM and it has an intermittent misfire , been at BMW now for almost 3 weeks, and the best feedback i can get from them, is that it has excessive carbon build up on 1 cylinder.

Is this Normal? The feed back i got from bmw yesterday is that the head has been sent in for engineering. Im just concerned that this is something that shouldnt be happening on a car with such low kilometers.

So I finally got my car back, yesterday, and today (40km of driving) it shat itself, all the oil that was inside the engine, now outside....

Why are they not just getting you a new motor in a crate... they aren't supposed to be sending heads to engineering etc unless something has changed or they are lying about what is happening...

The story yesterday was as follows

Injector 2 was over fueling, hence the excessive carbon build up on the one cylinder , they sent it in for cleaning ( walnut blast I would assume?) and put new valves on that cylinder)

On the flatbed was a mix of oil and water , so I’m guessing the head that they “fixed” isn’t so fixed anymore

Noticed something was up when it starting revving all funny and Made a wierd grinding noise after shutting off the engine

Will find out on Tuesday once they figure out what went wrong.. I’m honestly at the point where I don’t want it back, I really do love my car, but right now , it’s not fit for purpose, ... reliable transport

I’ll mention which dealership it is , based on the outcome of Tuesday , I really want to give them the benefit of making this right.

I’m expecting a call from bmw as customer care as well on Tuesday. The agreement with the dealership was the car was supposed to be ready on Friday, and when It wasn’t , I called customer care and layed into the poor guy who answered , there is a case open as well, due to the time taken to carry out the repair work

Well I guess you're getting a new motor either way now. Sounds like they had no clue what they were doing or something happened in the workshop they would have been liable for so were following their own methods... happened to someone else on here i messaged him to see if he wants to share.

I am curious to know if they did actually walnut shell blast your car because I was told this is not supported or a process they follow. I wanted to pay them to have it done whilst there was good access for another job (V8s are tougher with intake side of the head on the bottom)

BMW sucks at diagnosing but for a car still under warranty they will just change entire systems ... not 3 weeks wasting time without any movement. Let BMW HQ also help with the pressure.

Was there today , dealership was open, car on the ramps, and they were working on it, according to them ( I didn’t personally go inspect) some pipe, somehow “popped off” off the gear box, it was apparently gear oil, which I told them is bs, how then do you hear a spoiling down noise after the engine is off, some sort of grinding noise..

Thing for me is, even if it is some random event , totally unrelated to them working on my car, what’s to say this “pipe” won’t pop off again? Something is fishy here

This is going to form part of my conservation with BMW tomorrow , as the vehicle now is no longer fit for purpose , as a reliable vehicle

Sorry, derailing the initial thread, what Colour should the atf fluid be for the 320i? The oil out the bottom looked awefully like clean synthetic engine, not the characteristic red of atf

Its a colourless to slightly tinted yellow to brown depending on the mileage and how hard the gearbox worked. I think yours should be a slightly tinted brownish coulour fluid.
