Looking tops Nish, best advice is just get an OEM 340i diffuser, and get an exhaust shop to build you a back piece. tell them to create the y section for you with a small resonator and tips of your choice (OEM or afterarket). Also flange the backbox piece so if you want to sell later on, you can remove it if you want to if you don;t see that happening then do it direct.

Thanks bro,

I actually made a mistake. Its a 340i back box thats for sale, not the full exhaust.

But this is actually a really good suggestion.

Thanks bud,

Not looking for anything too extreme though since this is my everyday car. Just a back box will do for now. I have the 140 for all the extreme stuff.
Golf-tee mod it for now...then straight pipe it until you find a 340i box and diffuser lol

Since my last update on the F30, I can’t deny the fact that this car has treated me extremely well. I decided to replace my coolant cap while I did with the M140i on this one as well just as a precautionary measure. She was due for a brake fluid service which was done at SMG Umhlanga, and they had also done a coolant top up as I noticed it was higher than when I gave the car in.

The only thing that seemed a bit of a concern was the oil consumption, as I noticed that the car had went to 50% oil capacity in the system after 4000kms. I had a look at my tappet cover and not a leak anywhere either. I have since topped up and levels are at max. Will do an oil service by December.

I have been using this car for mostly in town driving recently and my consumption sits anywhere between 8 – 10 which is fairly decent.

This past weekend, I was away with family at San Lameer on the South Coast of KZN. Initially, I was set on taking the M140i up with me again. But due to space as my parents and brother were coming with me, as well as for sentimental reasons, I opted to take the F30 instead. Left on Friday morning with the car’s boot loaded to the max, and 5 adults including myself. I managed to do consumption between 5.5 to 6.7 to and back, doing around 450kms and with more than half a tank of range remaining. Trying to get close to the 1000km range if its possible for a 320i (wish me luck).

Unfortunately for me, I cracked my front lip going over a speed dip which means I’ll need to replace it.

As I mentioned, San Lameer is a very sentimental place for my family and I as we have many special memories here throughout the years. I was looking at a few old pictures and I had found one that I had to recreate, making the F30 the car to use for this trip.

Picture 1 is a photo of my mother and I, with my Ballie's Pre facelift 1999 E46 323i, which was the very same car that brought me home from the hospital when I was baby.

Picture 2 is a photo I couldn’t help but recreate with my F30, some 20 odd years later with my mother, taken in the same spot of the E46. Point is, I learnt from the Ballie. The Love for BMWs in our family, especially the 3 series started through him.WhatsApp Image 2025-08-25 at 13.04.03_c66c4da6.jpg

Next on the list:
  • New Front Lip From Jabsport
  • M Performance Side Decals
  • Rim Refurbishment with Black Insides
  • Shadow Edition Tail Light Tint
  • 340i Style Back Box + Diffuser
  • Head light Detail
I don't plan on replacing this car anytime soon. I would like to think the B48 has proven to be a fairly good engine over time, especially with this one being the early variant of them.

How the heck did you manage that bro? Closest I got on my last long distance trip was 8.6l/100Km. Granted my cousin and myself were in a "bit" of a hurry.

Can see your ballie disciplined you properly, I mean you could have totally gone of the righteous path and ended up driving an Audi now like @modocrat :p

I managed 6.7 combined on a trip to KZN recently. Would have been better if not for the initial JHB bit, but that's an N20 so a bit different.

The recreated pic of you and your Mom made a guy emotional over here lol. What an awesome thing!

I also noticed your dad showing off that nice tire tread in the original pic 😁

Glad you enjoying it. That consumption is amazing for a Petrol.

We did complete a 700km trip in just under 5 hours including a refuel stop and for my cousin to smoke. Must be his damn smoking, told him smoking is costly, but nooo he never listens.

I managed that because I had an old indian aunty in her 50s (my mom) in the car with me, so I had to go easy 🤣 🤣.

Facts, He hated the RS3 just as much as I did when I had it🤣🤣.

Back in his day, my dad always made sure he had the best spec and extras on cars🤣.

In a way nothing has changed, apart from the fact that he's a Range Rover Sport driver now🤣

ahhh I see, the mama cruise control. I had the same with my recent trip where my late dad's 82 year old sister traveled with me. She spend more time looking at the dials then where we going. Wonder if she remembers which towns we went through 😅

Hi, Since I also own a 2018 320i M Sport.

Coolant Pipe to engine block replacement. Factory recall on this.

Oil pipe connected to the turbo, faulty seal.
This was recalled in USA but not in South Africa. Check with your phone and light for leaks.

Other issues are control arms that wear out early and oil cooler leaks because it is plastic.

Gearbox service if you can.
Oil change intervals at 10 000km not based on the computer. You might get low oil warning. Oil gets thin toward service intervals and burns out.

5.6 litres per 100km is possible!!!

Dude, you could have taken the X3M or the RR Sport and recreate the picture of your F30 with Ai
We use the Sport for most of our trips. Dad wanted to give it a bit of a break though for this one since he has some clause in his insurance policy where his premium comes down if he stays within a certain mileage for the year. We've already done 21k in the 15 months we've owned it. Not the lightest thing on fuel either since its a V8 TT.

The X3M on the other hand is actually at BMW getting its turbo's replaced :( .

M140i was my first option to take with, but with my parents coming along, it was better to take the F30 on this one.

I had the following replaced all the way back in April:
Coolant Flange
Waterpump
Oil Cooler
Oil Filter Housing
Coolant Hose

Definitely planning on doing the ZF service soon, especially since mileage is just shy of 125k currently.
