Ah that sucks man, sorry to hear :(

You should have left the car at Legacy Yard, considering it's in the same building as SMG :giggle:

Best to do a pressure test at SMG to ascertain where the coolant leaks from. Usual culprit is the coolant flange hose, but best to get it tested. Goodluck.

Update

The car is on its way to SMG for a full diagnostics. I Didn’t want to drive it and take a risk, so I had it towed.

On the positive side, I think I got to it on time. I have gone back and checked camera footage at work, as well as asked the guys and security in the yard if they noticed anything leaking in my parking space and they all confirmed they didn’t see anything at all. So it’s a fairly new problem.

It’s better to address these things now than leave them only to get worse. Hoping it’s nothing too extreme. I suspect it’s a coolant line.

Update on the F30

BMW got back to me this afternoon and the confirmed it’s definitely the water pump and a coolant hose which needs to be replaced on the car.

This is a set back, but I’m just glad that there isn’t any other internal damage to the car. No blown gaskets or anything like that, engine is all good atleast.

Left a nasty leak on my paving at home

I've seen a similar leaks like that left behind often. It just wasn't on the paving but the sheets. What that tells me is you really made your F30 very happy. Well-done.

She will be back real soon back in good health, just try not to pleasure her so much again.
This made my day🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Update on my F30

After a week; I finally got my car back from its repair and it’s safe to say it feels and drives like a completely new car. It actually feels a bit more responsive compared to before.

All these parts were replaced:
-Water Pump
-Coolant Flange Housing
-Pipe Cylinder
-Oil Cooler
-Oil Cooler Gasket
-Oil Filter
-Seals
-Coolant Hose

While the car was in, I ordered a few more bits from jabsport:
-Gloss Black Front Bumper Canards
-Gloss Black Eyelids
-White V Brace
-Gloss Black Plain Spoiler
-Extended Paddles

I also had the chance to test drive a G20 320i LCI as a potential upgrade. In terms of tech and interior, the G20 is a massive step up. It’s very refined compared to the F30, but personally, I still prefer the way the F30 handles and feels over the G20.

Hopefully no more issues with this car. I’m still in 2 minds about the aftermarket warranty after my thread.

Hi Gents,

This car came standard with the smaller business nav sized screen. Initially I thought that I could do without the bigger pro nav sized screen and it still isn't a trainsmash, especially since this car came with HK sound and the adaptive LEDs.

However, being so use to having Pro nav, apple car play and the newer idrive 6 on my M140i, I have been thinking of upgrading my business nav screen to a pro nav unit if its possible on my F30.

Question is, has an OEM Pro Nav unit retrofit been done before, and what other changes to the cars infortainment does it entail ?

If not OEM, what are the best aftermarket options? Preferably want something with apple car play and allows me to keep my idrive system.

Also, how much should I budget when it comes to something like this ?

Another thing to add is I'm struggling with access to remote features on the BMW connected drive app. The car is connected, however the features don't work the way it does on my M140i. Doesn't even show me my fuel range. I can't even use the Navigation services on it, yet this car came spec'd out with BMW Remote services and nav from factory.

Remote services should be free and unlimited. My internet, weather, apps, etc expired a while back. But, I still have the ability on the BMW Phone App to see my car (where it was last parked) and also fuel range, remote services (aircon on, hooter, lights) and see if any doors/windows are open. If you email BMW Connected Drive, they can assist. [email protected]

Important: on the car itself, there is a tick box option to allow your data to be collected by BMW to activate remote services. This has to be set to yes.

I have a 2018 G01.

There is a (stupidly expensive, but proven) OEM way with a company in the US called Bimmertech, they offer many OEM upgrades for BMWs, especially f30's https://www.bimmer-tech.net/ just put your vin into the search bar to see all the upgrades you can do, but again stupid duur.

Take it from me, aftermarket is not a good move. I have an android unit and it's a hit or miss. There are Linux options but it s not seamless.

What I would do first as a start and it's a simple thing, is to get the bigger 8.8 screen on its own (around 5k second hand) and keep the same radio. Then you code the screen resolution to fit from 6.5 to 8.8. Fairly straight forward (people on the forum can help with that)

Once the screen is in and let's say you want android auto and apply carplay, get an mmi box. Costs around 5k. (Let's you ask some1 to install, looking at around 2k) Only issue with a mmi box is that it creates a second headunit if you will, so you need to switch between your OEM and the mmi box for audio. Kinda like the android units. In theory you can connect to both, one for calls (oem) and bluetooth for AA and ACP. There are more seamless versions but they are slightly costly and harder to install but still worth it.

The mmi option is the one you will take if you don't want to replace the radio but want a bigger screen and apple car play and AA (total cost around 15k)

Now if you want to replace the whole thing(radio, screen and touch interface I drive controller) with built in AA and ACP, it's a mission because you need FSC codes for the new radio and some vin remapping. If you can get the hardware, there are guys overseas that can help code it to your car. This whole exercise you are looking at around 30k.

Hi Guys,

It’s been a while since I last updated the F30 thread. To be honest, there isn’t really much to report back on with regards to this car either.

Ever since getting it back after the last issue in April, it’s been running pretty strong without any further issues (fingers crossed). I use this car 90% of the time to work and back while the M140i comes out on weekends.

I have gone ahead with a Motorite aftermarket warranty since the last issue, especially with the M140i also out of plan now and with mods most likely to happen with that one.

I have come across an OEM F30 340i back box for sale on marketplace in the area. Out of curiosity, has one ever fitted one onto a B48 320i before and if so, what would fitment entail ? I haven’t really done exhaust mods on any of my previous cars before since most had M performance exhausts. I have done some research and some guys say that the 340i back box will be a direct bolt on for my car since the LCI 320i’s are duel pipes, while others have claimed to have cut their exhausts in order for the 340i one to fit on. Should this be the case, are there any exhaust professionals around Durban that can do this job ?

Thanks in advance. Recent pics of the car 48E89B05-9344-4BB8-AE25-D033BF53DA1A.jpg
