Using fog lights

Good day everybody!

It's becoming more and more common for people to drive with their fog lights on - even when visibility is very good. This is not such a great idea, as the fog light globes were not intented to be permanently on.

We just quoted a customer with an E90 on replacing both rear light units. The fog light globes had burnt and melted the globe holders, also damaging the actual light units. It will cost just over R1500 per side to repair/replace.

It's definitely a wiser choice to only use the lights for their intended purposes. Otherwise, it could be an unnecessarily costly habit.

The front fogs in my E36 are always on, and the bulbs and fittings are oem from 1995, maybe they don’t make BMW’s the same lol :rollsmile:

Let the bastards pay.... Every day there is some prick with the rears beaming in clear weather... This morning some penis had his rear's on and when I passed him he had his high beam on as well... good thing I was flying and did not have time to flip him the bird

I drive with just the front ones on.

I used to have the rear ones or a long time ago. till I had to change the rear internal globe fitting which melted.

Then i got Blacklines:thumbs::thumbs:

What I hate even more are the people who install 8000K+ halogens or xenons in their oem halogen units.. yes it looks cool to you but when the one light is pointing dead straight and the other one is all crooked-eyed and pointing into the sky blinding everyone else I get really annoyed.. :thumbdo:

My ti never had fogs But now with the e90 i use the front ones.
Rears i only ever use on the highway when it pissing down and the spray gets to intense.

I don't even use the rear fogs in heavy rain because all it does is reflect off the water and still hurts my eyes so I won't let it happen to someone else. Like driving under those USELESS toll gantries with their purple lighting in the rain... Not cool.

I don't mind front fog lights but REAR fog lights are made for FOG and ONLY FOG... :nonono:

I switch on rear fogs when I'm being tailgated, makes it look like I'm braking - probably the only time I ever switch them on.

I wish all cars would burn their rear lights if the stupid ass driver switches on the rear fogs, if not necessary.

It's real funny though when the VW crowd switches on their rear fogs to look "cool" but there is only 1 fog light, which actually looks stupid....

older BM's also had only one foglight OEM, E30, E36 and some of the E46's ..not sure bout the other series' :fencelook:

True, I have one rear foglight. I initially thought there was something wrong.
