On topic – I agree slightly with Mike that there are room for improvement regarding safety and also for the organizing of the event, but it has been stated numerous times that no one could have expected the turnout and therefore no one can be blamed for anything that didn’t go perfectly smooth

I am glad things have calmed down now. I have to say that I agree with Mike's concerns from the point of view that things can easily go horribly wrong. But the onus is still on each individual driver to use their own best judgement and consider other road users. And a valid point is that most of us drive sedately the majority of the time and as such, when exploring these higher speeds and simply not accustomed to it and the effects it can have in the car's behaviour. I have calmed down lots over the years, but was also once "young and stupid" and as such extremely brave - fortunately also lucky!

My reply is not to continue or fuel this debate or take sides but simply to emphasise that this is a noteworthy concern and something to just consider on any organised run. We all want to have fun, otherwise why would we have these cars and go on these runs, but while enjoying ourselves we must do so as safely as possible (for ourselves and of course others) - maybe a bit of a loose remark, but risks taken have to be controlled with some sensible margin.

Accidents can happen at any speed, unfortunately excess speed will make matters worse and the moment your are over the speed limit you are already at fault - so I guess what I am trying to say is, have fun, but make sure nothing bad happens and if this means using better judgement, then rather this than it all end in tears.

So back on topic, I think these midnight runs are an awesome idea and can be great - just keep it safe and enjoy!!!

thanks nic_s for asking it be brought back in line,BUT

coisman has a life outside the office as well,so by mikes standards he can never go out and enjoy his car,so sorry coisman,no more runs for you.

secondly, the guys dont cover the 200km distance at full blast, they do slag off and drive the legal limits, myself included.

thirdly, trying to compare your road with a highway is bs in eyes,a highway doesnt have roads coming in at 90 degrees, but on ramps leading on to the highways, and may i ask what speed you were doing down your road?not 60km thats for sure,or else the woman would have seen you coming

mike your 21 and it seems your more of a danger on the road than i am.
im 43 and have only had three accidents
1. motorbike-bakkie turned in front of me and i hit the passenger side.
2.truck came down a pass on the wrong side of the road and i swerved to miss it and hit a rock damaging the drive shaft on my car.
3.a car cut me off and slammed on his brakes and i rear ended him.

in my life i have been to many illeagal events, and imo the midnight runs are the safest.i have seen horrible things go wrong at illeagal events, cars through company fencing ending up in the reception, cars taking out spectators that have been watching, but the one thing that i have seen at all these illeagal events is alcohol
so far at the midnight runs i have seen no alcohol
i have also done the legal things as well,track days,drag racing,skid pans,etc,etc.

ive had my drivers licence for 23 years and wittnessed alot more than you have in your short life,do you really think that bmwfanatics only go crazy at midnight runs,no they dont and i can tell you they are at most of the illeagal events too, with the bmwfanatics stickers on there cars.

but since you have misjudged everybody that took part in this events,i have decided not to organise another one.

so sorry guys,i colin(herr bmw) will NOT BE ORGANISING ANY MORE EVENTS.

Colin please don't let the comments of one person stop you from organising another event!! You cannot imagine how much the rest of us appreciate the trouble you go to organising runs like this! We all have an awesome time and the midnight run is becoming a part of us!!:ty::ty::ty:

Colin, firstly wtf? Pick up your toys and stop throwing a tantrum and have this discussion in a normal manner.

I never misjudged anyone. Where or what gives you this idea?

All I have said in this thread is that you as the organiser and those partaking need to cool it down and take note of the extra risks associated with a midnight run as apposed to a daytime run.

Are you honestly suggesting that I am wrong by saying the above? If so then I suggest you wake up, pull your head out the ground and take a look around you.

Professional Racing Drivers have accidents, Learner drivers have accidents, everyone has accidents. Your midnight run is a big fat accident waiting to happen.

Now once again I repeat myself, I am not suggesting you have no runs and I am not suggesting that the runs done were dangerous (although the legality of them can be questioned). I provided a selection of "what if" scenario's all of which could have happened but thankfully didnt happen. I proposed regulation and restraint for future runs.

THAT IS ALL.

Clearly you and others are unable to read basic english if you cannot see this. The only person I have "attacked" if you want to call it that is Coisman with completely valid points. Am i the only one who thinks this way or am I the only one who says it?

And please put your dick away, I dont care who has more people at their event. This isnt a dick wagging session and I really couldnt care less Colin.

There is no argument, accidents happen. Now untwist your precious knickers, stop seeing me and my opinion as a negative entity in your precious midnight runs and do something about it or choose to ignore my advice/opinion on this matter.

Mike
