Guys, I do understand that it is sometimes difficult to put a name to a face at our meets especially when the turnout is huge. I myself don't know many of the forum members and might have been guilty of ignoring some of the members at the meets.
For this I sincerely apologize to those who felt unwelcomed. My reason for this is that i have 8 year old twin boys who incidentally already have the love for BMW instilled in them by their own choice by the way.
So at the last 2 meets they were in awe at all the BMWs to see so I was too busy taking them around to take in all the sights, at the ice cream run as well as the meet at Mall of the South, to meet and greet new members...

The past even was great. I got meet a few members and I must say they were welcoming. Riyo met me as I drove in. Even though my car tried to eat him (window started closing on him) he still laughed and showed me where to park. That Alain was there to greet as soon as I got out the car. I met Firi, fuzz, Keegan, Wes, Divio. I cant remember who else. I saw Arbee and every moment he had free he was mingling and talking to people. I spent a very small amount of time with fanatics because most of my time was spent with one of the sponsors of the event who has been my best friend from 1989.
To the organisers, keep at it. You cannot satisfy every single person. It is not easy to do what you guys do. I know this from my experience with charity work. You will always have a few critics.
I have been to three events now. 1st one was hosted by car candy (breakfast run) then SA beemer glen show and shine. The heat was very uncomfortable. I expressed that to Mo from carcandy and so did others. That is why the last event was held in a basement. The heat was not there but the noise and cramped space was. It is never a win win but he gave it a bash. That was the third event which I was apart of. As Firi said. Cars dont have to be great. I am one of those who has a scratched car but I represented BMW fanatics and we won.

The perception of "my car is not worthy of an event" is totally wrong. As much as the focus is on cars, at events its all about mingling with people. I have attended many events without a car and still had an awesome time.
I even lead the breakfast run in 2014 driving a Rental and still had fun.

On a positive note, KZN pulled off another very successful event today where almost a ton of pet food was delivered to an animal shelter just outside of Durban. KZN has been blessed in pulling off many successful events over the years and the simple recipe for keeping things going in this manner is TEAMWORK (to name names is unfair and I trust that recognition or fame is not being sought by anyone involved in our events). We have had our share of disappointments a few years back when one unfortunate member travelled almost a 100 kms to attend an event and found out he was the only member there. Obviously he was not happy with that but consoled himself with some waffles and ice cream and went back home. He did not bear any grudges and it did not stop him from attending other events. Although he does not attend every single event, he does attend when he can.
I have been around BMW Fanatics more than most of the KZN regulars with the exception of 2 or 3 guys and have seen many people join the forum from this part of the world since I joined the forum. Most stay because they love the experience, vibe and comradery. Some dont because it is simply not their cup of tea. Others still remain active on the forum but are not enticed to attend the events for different reasons. Whilst it would be great to have every single member from the KZN side attend every event, this is simply not practical for the members and not practical thinking for the events co-ordinators. Yes cliques are formed and have formed as the group grew. It is a way of life. It can become a problem if our mindset allows it to become one.
Demographics (your financial standing at the time of the scheduled event, your proximity to where the event is being held, your car) play a part in who attends what events. This can be clearly seen in some of the posts in this thread. Events Teams also unfortunately cannot cater for every member's individual preferences as the choices would be quite diverse. So Events Teams put together events that cater for the majority and hence seek the support of the majority. To those that have not attended any official events, give it a try and hopefully you will enjoy the experience. To those that have attended an official event and did not enjoy the experience, I urge you to give it another try and hopefully your experience will be better this time around. To those that cannot attend or simply chose not to attend for whatever reason, keep participating on the forum and hopefully in time we can convince you to attend events on a regular basis.

I would like to submit a suggestion for consideration.
This weekend a couple of us went to the Midvaal Raceway. I do not think I exaggerate when I say that a great time was had by all.
It became evident that a big contributing factor to this was that there was something to do. The activity on the track certainly got the adrenaline pumping.
Furthermore, even if an attendee did not put their car on the track, there was huge spectator value.
It also ensured that there was ALWAYS something to talk about.
In conclusion, when events are organised, having them based around some sort of activity would go a long way to make them enjoyable, and create a better sense of community.

Ok, so i had some lenghty chats with the our events teams and we have decided that we are going to be following this strategy...
We will host 4/5 main events per year. These events will be as follows, in no particular order.
Charity - Social/Giving Back
Race - Performance and Social
Dyno - Performance and Social
Breakfast Run - Social
Weekend Away - Epic Social
The main events will be split between the year and between them, the teams will setup social events like the Cars and Coffee/Ice Cream meets/etc as well as attend other car club events.
The team, at our official events will be at most times (not compulsory) in staff attire (Caps, shirts labelled with STAFF) so they are easily identifiable. This is not limited to Events staff, but also mods and admins that are available and attend the events will also be identifiable(not compulsory).

I have said this before in a post and will say it again, I attended a KZN meet up once, was on holiday over Easter weekend, rented a polo sedan 1.4,guys met me at the total by autostyle and we had a group go through to the main meeting point.
these guys really made me and my family feel at home, they made sure I didn't get lost, even when we went to another place and chatted over coffee, afterwards around 9 ish then made sure I got back to my hotel safely.
to this day it is an event I will never forget, again I would like to say thank you to the KZN guys ,you guys rock
