In August there will be a track day at Red Star. Details will be up
within a week or two.

It also the 100th centenary celebration worldwide and we be having something together with all the bmw car club's to celebrate. All this will happen on 1 day.

Hi All,

Just getting back to this thread.

Would like to know from members if we are having too many events lately? We have noticed that from last year, a lot of events this year or lately has brought in a much lesser crowd that prior.

What is it? How can we get the numbers we used to?

Last years Weekend Away was sold out a month prior. We had 50 people attending. The event is just over a week away and we have 12 people confirmed. Remember, we have booked 20 chalets. Only 6 are taken...

The Centenary event, hardly any Fanatics attended.

How can we get the crowd back? We are worried...

Let us know?

Thanks
Arbee

Hi Yas.

Speaking from a KZN point of view. We've had overwhelming support for the past 6 events that we had. The 7th being July was raceday. In August we were unfortunately rained out. I can't say for September. Maybe it's the date that's the problem. Personally though I cannot afford a weekend away this year.

I believe it has something to do with the evolution of the forum / community as well.

The regular big event guys have possibly moved on to other priorities....

I personally focus more on smaller events, like breakfast runs and actual track days, which is normally a very small cluster of friends / enthusiasts.

You guys have a difficult job, that's for sure.

My suggestion is events to be at a time when convenient for all parties. The centenary event was on a Saturday morning. Very difficult time for a lot of people

That's quite difficult i think.

the week is out for 99% of the community, Sunday people normally got to church or spend time chilling with family.

Its very difficult to get a time suitable for all... and even when we do, someone cannot make it.

How do we go forward though? Do we poll a few dates and times and ger feedback before setting a date? Its such a pain to do this as it adds a whole lot of admin on the events guys duties. Not ideal...

We have cut down on events completely...

We coupled up with BMWCCG for the Track day, our members complained about the price. So we wont be doing another track day... Perhaps arranging a convoy to join another clubs track day yes, but not our own one (like race day).

Over the next few months you can expect events such as ice cream meets, cars and coffee and breakfast runs. To add, the events crew is going to put very minimal effort. Unfortunately, its not fair for them to go all out only for 5 members to enjoy it.

Should attendance pick up, we will continue with this approach next year and have 3 main/big events through the year and monthly smaller events.

Again, we have proven that a track day need not cost you a fist full of cash... so scrapping the idea based on the recent turnout is a little well…., but OK, we will continue to go as individuals.

Think you misunderstanding bro.

What Arbee is saying is basically this.

Events are planned for OUR members first and foremost before anyone else....we can't setup a R30k event and not have enough members to fill it up. Now I know some will say that but why Drag racing, but the answer is simple, there's a bugger interest in that part of the sport as compared to track day racing. Simple example, our race day was sold out in 1.5 hours, 60 spots gone in an hour.

The idea of a track day won't be shelved and not be a given any thought, however what we currently saying is that, from working out the costing to have a track day, it's out of our reach at the moment. We more then happy to get a group of guys together and attend other clubs track days in the mean time as a BMWFANATICS crew.

The questions raised here, is the same as we raised in the past, reason of low attendance.

We were told various things...no events in PTA region, no track days, timing of events must be middle of month, costing of events etc.

It's tough for us to cater for everyone and make everyone happy, hence I think the events commitee moral is low because of the effort and the turnout that comes thereof. None the less, we will be pushing to get our last quater done, with social events and slight twist maybe to it, breakfast runs and ice cream meets.

All we wants it to know if you guys enjoyed it or not, or what is it exactly that you don't like about current setup.

That all.

Thanks for your time guys.

You misunderstanding... What i mean is we (TheFanatics/BMWFanatics) cannot afford an official track day event. With the recent number of member attending at event, if we were to host our own track day we would need to raise funds of R80k plus. We dont have this funds available, even if we did have the money, we wont be able to take a knock at any event. Judging by the price of the BMWCCG (i think it was R600 plus MSA) which our members said was too high we would probably run a track day event at a loss. Do the math...

I also said that we would offer a joint event with another car club or attend one of "open days" at Zwartkops for example.

Race day scrapped? Wow... Was becoming a decent annual weekender.
Race day will be one of the 3 main events for 2017. Race day is proving to be thee most successfull event of our calender. We have had 2 and both were sold out and attended well.

Thanks for the clarification FiRi.

There is certainly no dispute that drag strip racing is very popular, which is great, as loads of guys enjoy that.

My point in BOLD above, we don't always have to book out a place to meet up and have fun, and would never have to for track days.

Anyhow, I wont pretend you guys are having a easy time with events, and so, I wish you luck.

I've got you Abree...

For me, it's my family commitments. Most events coincide with swimming lessons, birthday parties, family time as well as the wife's commitments as I don't have babysitting family in Pretoria.

I hope to see it change soon as the kids grow.
