Help me remember what guys were paying for these when they just launched.
I remember there were only 30 available, and it was some kind of auction?

I have a vague memory of people forking out R2.8bar to get their hands on this sure fire investment car
that's going to be worthy of a retirement fund one day!

Seems like a bargain these days.

Yeah there were 30, 29 were auctioned off.
I vaguely recall prices being around 2.2-2.4m for the DCT, and around 2.6m for the Manual

Interestingly, of the global M2 CS allocation, South Africa only received 30 units. Ten of these were sold to valued customers, while the remaining 20 were auctioned off at a special event the evening of the launch. That night, the average auction price was R1. 9 million per car, with the highest bid at R2.

They sold at about R2M at that farce of an event... but the week after (of course) they were at dealers asking 2.8-3M that you're remembering...

...and yes the whole internet was saying they were totally worth it, pointing at these ads as proof of great investments because someone advertised it for a high price as usual :ROFLMAO:
...and totally missing the point that they had just sold at auction (an actual indicator of real market value :ROFLMAO:) for R1M less.

Rinse and repeat for many of these "faux special" vehicles.

Also obligatory comment to remind everyone that it has actually lost closer to R500K in 'value' over this time even if it did sell for R1.8m new AND they do find someone to buy it for the asking price above.

Maybe, just maybe, the auction organisers invited the wrong buyers to the event.
