Thanks Arbee, seeing as they plan on leaving the Petroport at 6am we should be fine trailing them at 0630 or even closer to 7am.

You would probably pass them along the way, or get caught up between them as the lead car drives at speed limit. I would rather, you guys leave at 5:30 and be ahead of them. If last years was anything to go by, we where almost 80 cars in convoy. The last car was about 20-30km behind the first car.

I'll be in that exact convoy :fencelook:

Thanks Arbee for that info.

The other option is to leave around 8 or 9AM, so you miss the morning traffic rush. Then have lunch in Harrismith (or a 1-2 hour stop-over somewhere halfway and proceed afterwards). This way, in theory, you should miss the morning rush and the afternoon rush.

The idea is to have a calm drive together - more suggestions?

I can tell you this now, the VW guys will leave promptly before 6:15am at the latest. They will be at Harrismith by 8:30am. So Bergview Engen is going to be stuck on. Last year, there was no parking once the convoy was in.

They normally at Engen for an hour to 2. They leave at around 9:30 and the trip from here on is slower than the first half. Ending up in Durban around 1pm.

The few years i have done the Dubrun, i left with the convoy from Petroport and drive until Harrismith, thereafter i left before 9am as i needed to get to Durban to make it for Mosque at 12.

It is thee most amazing convoy i have ever been. The rolling pics are amazing, there are some talented photographers there and the memories last forever.

Why not join them?

Leaving later sounds tempting as we don't have to get up so early. But to be honest I'm not too phased. Even if we convoy with them it could be cool.

I don't think we are going to be more than 10 anyway.

Since Chef has his flame suit on, You're a traitor and need to be banned! :) Join our convoy or else... :bat:

You guys must start organising things like this well in advance if you want us to join. And I did start a thread about the Dubrun, asking who of the Fanatics are joining them.....

I'm flexible either way. I will just need to stop between 12:30PM and 2PM for prayers since it's Friday (but that will take me about 10 mins) and can fit into the scheduled garage stops

Perhaps let's start a list of the BMW guys going and then decide between us if we want to join the VW convoy or travel on our own and confirm times - else, everyone has a say on the forum, but only a few are going to make it.

Engen/Bergview is usually chaotic on long weekends too, so perhaps if we decide not to join the VW guys (no offence), then we stop at the garage before/after? Like I said, I'm flexible though. However, this should be a relaxed cruise together and not a "speed" trip

We'll probably catch up anyway. Will be pretty cool.

Not sure if we'll be able to catch up with all the oil those Veedubs will leave on the road. Our RWD cars will have difficulty with traction.
Flame suit off

Just kidding VW guys

Yes there's already another official thread that is its dragging feet. I just want a plain and simple road trip. We should ideally have everyone's number in a whatsapp group chat so we can make plans when down in durbs/margate.

PM me your number and get added to the chat :)

Are any of you guys going to the Margate drags?

I suggest limiting this thread discussion to the road trip. The Margate drag discussion can happen between the guys who are already there or just start a new thread with who can make it for that event

Let's keep this one simple. Road trip with whoever wants to come along - add your name and we'll decide between the guys who can make it

Ok . So please put up a list then. If I go , I also need to stop for Friday prayers. So maybe leave at 5am to hit Durbs before 12.

Totally agree

+1

Prefer driving while its cool ...

So what time will leave the PetroPort (which is the last stop so the JHB guys can join). If the VW convoy is really large, should we avoid them, so we don't get lost in the crowd and leave 30 mins earlier? Say 5:30AM

Also, whatever time we decide on above, the Midrand/PTA guys will need to leave the N1 Caltex about 30 mins before this time, say 5AM?

For those coming, what do you think?

BTW, would also like to be in Dbn before 12 for prayers, but as a traveler it's not compulsory for me* (*Not all the muslim guys follow the same rules as this).

I just don't want to end up rushing the trip, especially between PMB and DBN, as I had too many close calls on that specific section of road in the last few trips I made.
