Quick question - E36 Brakes

I need to replace my front pads and discs, it looks like my options are Ferodo or Ate.

Which should I take?

Edit: The Ferodo's are slightly more expensive, nothing big though.

Where do you get the ATE discs? The last time I called around Midas stocked ATE pads but Motopart discs.

I just went to the local tyres/shocks/brakes place and they had.

R1515 for 2x ATE Front Discs, 2x sets of ATE Front Pads and a sensor thingy.

Thanks. I would've gone the ATE route but couldn't get hold of the discs, so I ordered rear EBC pads and discs for R1330 including courier costs.

Wtf did you get that from? I sell ebc stuff, and the ebc rear discs are over R3k alone. Pads around R900 for the rear.

I neglected to say it's for a an E36 323i. It's the standard Ultimax stuff, not the green/yellow/coloured stuff. I ordered from Formula Friction.

I always used Ferodo pads on my e36, didn rely like ATE when I used cos they were squeaky and gave off an odd smell and I enjoy driving with my windows down. But generally buy Ferodo Platinums and apply copper slip when installing. The Ferodo Ceramics are also pretty good, they're softer so easier on the disk.
With disks I usually bought BMW disks but last brake change I got hold of Alfa and they quite nice.

ATE is what BMW use as OEM.

All BMW mechanics I spoke to also said ATE is what BMW use as OEM, however I got a set of front brake pads from BMW & don't see no ATE signs or badges on it

Mine were smelling pretty off by the time I got home but that could be due the fact they were brand new and the glue hadn't been cleaned off. I'll let you guys know if they start squeaking, the old ones I had replaced had a permanent slight squeal to them, it drove me up the wall sometimes so i'm just hoping for the best.

ATE are OEM suppliers for many manufacturers

I bought a set of wipers for the e46. They were Bosch Icons, but nowhere on the box or wiper did it say Bosch. Bmw must have an agreement where they get manufacturers to remove their branding. I know on the e36 the calipers have ATE stamps on the back.

E46 calipers I had also had ate stamped on them.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using a de-tuned F1 engine.

I was thinking the same, on the box theres only Bmw stickers and logo's....

It's the same for most other manufacturers (e.g Toyota Pads are manufactured by ATE, but the packaging will only say Toyota).

Standard industry practice to make and pack into the customers packaging . The clothing industry also has the factory make the garments , tag them and pack them . they are put on the shelves like that . So an Edgars garment is made in the same factory as a pep or jet item .
