So as you have all seen in my other thread, my stupid addiction to cars has taken another dramatic twist. After having the M550i for a relatively brief amount of time, I managed to smuggle the purchase of a new car past my wife like a ship passing silently through the Straight of Hormuz.
This time I've gone big, really big. And to pre-empt the demand for this thread when I get the car, I am going to start this now with the Autotrader pics and then will update once I get the car on Friday.
So this is a classic impulse buy, and much movement of budgets, but I cam out on top. It's a 2021 M850i Gran Coupe in Black Sapphire Metallic, 17500kms on the clock. I have bought it sight unseen from SMG in Umhlanga, and I have been very impressed with their service. The deal has been done over email and WhatsApp. Got a great finance plan in place, although I will need to renew the MP at the end of the year. From what I have seen, it's in mint condition.
As much as the M550i is a great car, and I like it very much, I just never quite fell in love with it. It's a fantastic sleep with plenty of power to push you along in refined comfort, but for me it wasn't a take a second look when walking away car. Don't get me wrong, epic, fast, smooth, but not for me. This ticks my aesthetic boxes, especially after I stupidly sold my F06 M6 GC a few years back for the barge 760 (regret that every day!). So to say I am extremely happy with what I am getting would be an understatement.
I'll put more amateur photos up once I get it and it gets cleaned after transporting from Durban, and after I've spent the weekend with it will give some feedback as to the differences I have picked up against the M550i. I think it will be an interesting comparison.
For those thinking why I didn't go M8:
1. Too expensive
2. Too expensive
3. I love my wife
4. Too expensive
5. I like my plums where they are
6. I daily my car over shitty roads and the slightly more forgiving suspension on the M "Lites" suits my old shattered pelvis better
7. Did I mention too expensive?
As mentioned in the other thread, the specification list is pretty long:

Quite chuffed about the extended leather and the nice fancy knob, gear knob that is, the crystal crafted clarity or whatever it is. Felt the M550i was let down a bit by it's older knob, gear knob that is, which seemed too F series for a G series. Small details I guess. Then there's the car itself, which in the black, with the black interior and the galvanic cerium grey makes it look incredibly menacing. The cerium grey style 728m rims (a personal favourite of mine) just add to the look, and they shall not be changing colour.
