Quick poll - 645ci Cabriolet or C55 AMG

I am bored with the X5 so I was thinking about something different - I have been looking at a Black on Black 645ci Cabriolet. I also drove a C55 AMG and I loved the car - Fantastic engine. I have never owned a Merc but this car is amongst the nicest that I have ever driven. A friend suggested a 335i but I prefer V8's

Any thoughts?

Well thats two totally different pair of shoes!

The C55 is a "small" car in comparison to the 645Ci but all depends on your personal liking!

I'd take the BMW

Ok...

Get over the insane torque curve of the C55 for a second, and feel the rest of the car.

it is uninvolved, its isolated, which is very much a good thing if you want a comfortable cruiser with a large motor, if you want to have fun, go for the BMW...

Actually take the C55 on a long drive, through the bends, stomping the crap out of it, try getting the backside out a bit....

I too fell in love with the C55, its an awesome car, and def has a place in this world, I am not knocking it in the slightest, but its not a drivers car...

C55 bud , that thing is potent , but you won't have the looks as people might not even recognize it amongst all the normal c classes

To be honest, I would take the 335i over both cars.

If you insistent on those 2 cars, I would take the C55 AMG over the 645ci any day of the week. I think even Bangle vomits in his mouth when he looks back at his creation.

That C55 AMG is a lovely car with 4 doors. That engine sound is also addictive. I don't see where the 645ci is better than the C55 - not in any department.

You are quite right - it is almost anonymous - the ultimate sleeper?

My first choice would have been your e39 M5 but they are to old to finance :(

I must say I am quite suprised to hear that you don't rate the c55 as a drivers car - I have taken one around the old race track in East London and found it it easy to drift and quite forgiving for novice drivers

I found the steering on the 6 series to very "wooden" - not much feed back at all where as with the merc the car was much easier to place

I don't know - different strokes for different folks I guess

Thanks

The C55 shape is getting dated (actually is) people criticize Bangle, but the 6 series is unique, one of my friends has the 650i cab, if you could lay your hands on a 645i cab take it, Its a bit heavy to be honest, handles like a 7 series you could say, the C55 would be the fun factor, but the 645i would be the better of the 2 i'd say

If I paid the going price for a C55 or any other cool car I wouldnt stomp the crap out of it or get the backside out anyways, that's a Clarkson thing. What's wrong with just owning a cool car?

Car mag two months ago pronounced the 6 series better in handling than the AMG but overall rated the merc the winner and a choice as something to live with. This surprised me and is indicative of just how good all these offerings are, the past where BMW was always the clear winner is not always the case these days.

A very good point Sir - But occasionally I fall vitim to temptation when approaching a deserted traffic circle or on Sunday evenings when I sometimes take a drive around the grand prix circuit in EL

The c55 wants you to take it by the scruff of the neck and thrash it whereas the 645ci says (chill dude - lets just cruise - at 200 kph past Harrismith at 02h00)

I wish I could afford to buy both :)

645ci anyday of the week! Has anyone actually heard how awesome the 645 sounds?! Pretty close to the C55 in my opinion! My neighbour has a C55, he got it the same day I got my E39 M5, so he took me for a drive and vice versa, and what I can say is that the Merc is an awesome car, lots of power, but it doesn't move you the way a BMW does, I've driven a 645 cab and that car was incredible, the sound of that V8 with the roof down!:praise::joy:

Hi - just out of curiosity - how much faster is your M5 compared to your neighbours c55?

645ci will stick out a bit more and has a greater luxury element over the Merc. Merc will give you that extra power.

Also, the two cars listed are very different, you have a 2 door drop-top vs a 2 or 4 door car. Very tough choice anyway, I would decide based on the drive.

To be honest it's pretty close, M5 definately has the edge but not by a big margin..

I love the almost anonymous look of the C55, its only the enthusiast that will recognise the subtle differences and that sublime angled front of the car....

Never been a fan of the look of the previous 6 series...

C55 ftw......

I'm a merc fan and owner of two, the c55 is addictive and beautiful, the e55 is another animal altogether with almost 100kw extra! The c55 suspension is quite stiff and it makes a difference testing it for 30min as opposed to owning it! If you're paying over 200k, look at the e55, no 6 can touch you! The 6series is a brilliant cruiser, you either love it or hate it, I'd personally opt for 4doors for that size of car.
