man I miss this car... I had a 140 and to me one of the best BMW products in recent history in terms of value.. well before the prices went crazy.. owned mine for 5 years and sold it for 50k more than I bought it... she is keeper! followed her with a M2C and its a brilliant car, but this I miss.... the M2C isn't as good an all rounder as the 140i in my opinion

I found a few old pics of my ex M240i which I've attached. I might be a biased, but I actually prefer the 140 🤣 .

I prefer the front of the M240i and the back of the M140i. That said, M240i is just sexy man (100% bias).

Glad you are having a great time in the car after your nightmare start. It’s crazy how much mileage you drive without realising it. Wish you many happy miles.

Honestly bro, the 140 is a very underrated car.

When they first launched, there wasn't really much hype about them since they aren't full fat M Cars. And even when it came to rivals like the A45 and Golf R, it was incredibly underrated. Its only if you own one that you know how amazing these cars really are.

I mean, an M2C is awesome don't get me wrong, I was looking at one eventually. But the B58 has my heart over the S55. These 140's will be worth something in the future to come. In fact, value has already held really well. High spec M140i's like my car are still priced above used later F40 M135i's, that's how sought after they've become. Even the police spec ones with barely any extras are still in the R500k range. Definitely plan to hold onto this car long term wise, especially since I know I'll never find a spec like this again.

The M240i was one of the best balanced and most beautiful cars I ever owned. Handling wise, the 240 feels a bit more sportier compared to the 140 because of its body. @msm would definitely agree with this.

In a way I regret selling it and buying the RS3. But with that said, the 140 was the car I always wanted even before the 240 in this exact spec I have now.

So I mentioned on the last time I updated this thread that I had done an annual service on this car and oil change with filter at BMW.

Since then, I have done 2200kms and I have noticed that my oil levels as per the monitor has dropped about 25% or so. I know these cars do have a tendency to heat up and go through oil, but is this something that's normal ?

The concerning part for me isn't even the oil loss, but I did top up about 200ml's to bring it back to max. I drove the car for a bit afterwards, I did about 100kms since topping up and I noticed the levels as per my iDrive screen hasn't moved at all despite the top up. This is what's concerning me right know about the car. No visible leaks on the floor nor on my tappet cover.

I suspect that my Oil Sensor might be on its way out hence why the system hasn't picked anything up that I topped up my oil. Has anyone ever had this issue before on their cars, or could it possibly be something else that might be worth looking at?

On that marker my guess would be that 300 - 400ml would only trigger the 100% state again since you're in the 75 - 50 bar area.

I have no idea about the B58 but if it's anything like the N55 and oil, the harder you drive the more it wants. Normal usage being around 1 liter every 3000 - 5000 km.

Whoever came up with the oil measurement method at BMW should be publicly executed anyway, it's the most frustrating thing to do.

So apparently the distance between max and min is 1 litre or so.

The last thing I'd want to do is to exceed the max. So I use this car at most 3 times a week and I do anywhere between 100-200kms or so when I do drive it. I can't deny I do find myself hammering this car every now and then, especially when a Merc or anything from the VAG stable wants to challenge me which happens frequently.

I agree, call me old school but the dipsticks were a lot better.

Correct, the gauge is a specific 1litre top up range...I ended up keeping oil under my boot cover for top ups but didn't need it once I got all the possible oil leak items done.
The one that caught me totally off guard with slight drop in oil was the sump gasket...couldn't spot oil anywhere in the engine bay until we lifted the car in the workshop, then it made sense.
