Nice looking car but its a bit under-powered for my liking. The current CLA45 and A45 AMG will be a handful for this car. Lets not forget they coming out with a 280kw engine. Coupled with AWD, the M2 is going to be playing catchup in most situations. BMW, by protecting their M3, are falling behind the competition. The BMW name will only get them so far.

This should have been a 300KW machine. Stop stuffing around BMW. If you don't want to produce a supercar, then put some more effort into your M cars!

The M2 makes me excited and disappointed all at the same time.

It sits in between the M235i/M135i/340i and the M3/M4 in terms of power I guess that is what they were aiming for, 300kw is much to close to m3/M4 the M2 is rated around 270kw not to far off from mercs 280kw cars. In any case AWD cars will murder the M2 on launch but remember 90% of the time BMW takes these cars out on rolling runs, unfortunately you can't always have the best of both worlds.

Valvetronic on an ///M engine? I was under the impression that this was never to be used on a BMW ///M model of any sort due to the lack of efficiency at high RPM, at least I remember reading about that, but then again, that was probably a while back. Will have to look into that some more.

Otherwise, this can only be a hot little car when it comes out!! I wonder how much of a handful it is going to be if the current M3/M4 is anything to go by!!

Its certainly a stunning looking vehicle will probably be accepted by alot more people than the 1M, however the 1M imho does have & retain alot more shock value about it compared to this M2.

Noticed in the video how there was not any prolonged shot of the 1M next to the M2.................2d pics don't necessarily tell the whole story

The 1M has a macho, muscular badass stance about it. In general the 2series in design lacks that chunkyness and muscularness of the E82 design, adopting a more refined, sleek look, everything pulled in here and tucked in there, whereas the E82 is more old school in design, with the upright grille etc, like the E30s.

Also the M2 follows the same look as the M3/4/5/6 whereas the 1M has a uniqueness about it. It probably was the biggest and most radical design change ever seen on an M-Car.

Its also the trend these days with M-Cars, exception being the M3/M4, that the next generation appears a bit toned down. The E46 M3 was really badass, not saying the E92 wasnt, maybe sleeker, but not as muscular looking as an E46 M3. Same with the Z3 M Coupe & Z4 MCoupe and the E60 M5 & F10 M5 and now the 1M & M2.

I'm just saying with the M2, you seen it all before, the front, the wheels, the rear, etc. The 1M however was a complete shock to the system............

Yes...no power dome
no CF roof
no styled mirrors
bit low on power

Don't worry M2 CSL or GTS is lurking somewhere there in the BMW M design studio............

I thinks I wants ... Numbers are not the whole story. Agree with Ash styling wise it's allot of recycled parts and the aim of being frugal with costs ... like the wheels etc ... But still I think it's a good looking machine. Would like to see this in other colours

The tropical Blue like colour while nice is not a performance car colour imo

Good looking, but I feel the 1M was some what more special, major fail on the mirrors.
Was hoping for a detuned s55.

BMW always under quotes their hp numbers, this car is probably pushing out 280-285kw in reality. (maybe more)
Lets wait for real world dyno figures.

Also it's all about the driving experience, M car's have never been about the most power, more about balanced chassis, handling and the fun factor.

For me the disappointments are:

Overall weight: 1587kg (3500lbs)
Lack of carbon fibre roof
and the seats, it would've been awesome if the put the M4 one piece bucket seats instead of the standard M235i seats with a bit of blue stitching and an embossed M logo on the seat :thumbdo:

I'm sure some crazy tuner out there is already planning on stuffing an s55 into one of these :cartel:
