Car looks like heaps of fun. Is that trip computer correct? Do you still get 700km+ on a tank?

No bud. Will never get that much on a tank. Lol! I hardly reset the trip after refuelling. I don't bother with trying to get good economy from a tuned Golf R. It's pointless. :thumbdo:

And it was time to clean and give the car another proper detailing session...

Gave her the good old snow foam treatment, followed by a good clay using Turtle Wax's clay kit and then finished up with a wash with Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II

Gave the car some paint correction with a machine polisher and Menzerna products. Then gave a good hand polish of Auto Finesse Tripple

Loaded the 98RON file and decided to do some testing.

Did a quick live datalog sessions with my Polar FIS+ before logging with VCDS. I like to make sure she is healthy before loading her in 4th from down low to see what the logs say.

Since I had my GoPro with, I made a little vid to show how healthy the car is. Virtually no pull across all 4 cylinders.

And then I torture tested the car. Thrashed her through the gears and did a few off the line runs. Picked up a bit of clutch slippage here and there. But nothing serious. I am still on OEM clutches and if proper cool down methods are performed I should be fine at a drag strip with this file.

Here are some video runs I made.

Some pics from the weekend...

The BMW Fanatics came down for the weekend. As I have a few friends there I hooked up with a few of the guys. Got to see Duran's fast and powerful 1M... Mayur's fast and seriously loud C63....

And the time has arrived... My R's first trip to dragstrip since being Stage 3.

I will be taking part in Dragwars held this Sunday at Tarlton International Raceway.

Some prepping...

Some guys are already hooting for me to be in the 10s. Well, I know for a fact I won't get in there. I will be very happy with an 11s pass using my current setup. To do 10s, I need better clutches, I need the 104 file and I need lightweight 17s with slicks.

I will be running in full street trim with my 19" OZ wheels with the 98 file for now. If funds permit, I should be fully race prepped next year.

I also organized with Rey (Our local HPA Motorsports dealer) to get HPA's Stage 3 flash and upgrade from Stage 2 and see how my clutches perform after this with the 98 file. May be all I need for now till funds allow for upgraded clutches.

Update.

So Dragwars happened this weekend...

Took the 300km drive up to Pretoria to spend the weekend at a friend's. No trailer options for me coming from far.

The following day I went through to my APR dealer to collect my APR dongle and prep the car for Tarlton. Rey from Experience sent Malcolm the HPA tool and the file for my Stage 3 DSG flash.
d8d3ab98526b6daaca36e1dd42462e7f.jpg

Malcolm requested we log the car which we did. Car's shifts are still quick like before. Could feel a few adaption shifts. Seems to clamp down better in higher gears, but still slipping slightly on the 98 file. Unfortunately I will have to upgrade the packs before attempting the 104 file.

So I switched to the 98 file which is basically a UK and Australian pump file to use for Tarlton.

Here are pics of my car at Tarlton. Some are courtesy of Krutch and VAG Motorsport

Later in the day, about 30 minutes before the track closed, Laven told me to fit his slicks and have a run. Unfortunately I only managed one run and the track was closed. Being my first time with slicks, I didn't realize I need to launch the car a bit to try heat the Hoosiers up. Car wheelspun off the line, and when it grabbed it just kept going. On the run with the slicks I managed a 12.13s pass.

In 36 degrees heat, I still managed a personal best of 11.98s pass with an exit speed of 185.7km/h. This was with my full street trim, 19" OZ wheels and Yokohama street rubber. I was on full OEM interior, rear seats and battery. Only thing stripped from my car was the spare. Track conditions were excessively hot and every competitor complained about that. So for now I am happy as I have reached the 11s.

Next up.... I will have to look at upgraded clutches so I can run the 104 file. And definitely a set of 17s with slicks. (And some practice on using them)

Here is my time slip:

I managed to source a set of OEM VW R Recaros. Made a swop with a fellow R owner along with a cash difference.

Here's a video of my Big Turbo R coming back from JHB when the seats were fitted.

Deadly from the line and scary on top end as well. I tapped off after 250 whilst holding the phone cause it got scary.

I then did a top end run and the needle went a few mm just off the 300 mark with my GPS registering 296km/h. Revs just couldn't allow more as she was hitting the limiter at 7100rpm.

And over the Month End weekend I stopped at the Mall with the fiancé. As usual I stop on the other side of the mall where nobody stops cause I don't want other people's car's door dents on my R.

A local friend following my R build stopped next to me with his fairly new Mk7 R. Thought it was a good idea to take a few snaps... Everyone claims the Mk6 looks so dated to the Mk7. I just can't fault my Mk6. Maybe cause it's modded to stand out. For the money I've spent on my R, I don't see myself trading this car of mine in on a Mk7 anytime soon. Regardless of their awesome potential and how awesome those Pretoria wheels look.

I think the front of the 6R is much better than the 7R. The 7R front almost looks awkward. But the rest of the 7R is better imo.
