Sorry to hear bro. Hope she will be sorted quickly. Get Bmw to change the oil. Filter housing gasket as well. If I'm not. Mistaken the F series uses the same housing as the E series, and those gaskets become very thin after a few years. When they do, it's sweats quite a bit and oil leaks can be seen with oil running down the head.

Thanks all, I also think it is the Valve Cover, I've yet to hear back from BMW but will take the advice and make sure they change oil as well.

I did tell them to not rush, then they seem to do a better job..

Confirmed, it was the Valve Cover gasket! Being sorted out under plan and getting new oil, etc. So it seems like a common fault, actually think this should be a preventative maintenance step on these motors vs waiting for it to fail.
Next is the water pump I presume, but let me keep quiet and not jinx this :fencelook:

Should collect her again tomorrow :smilebounce:

Then she needs some new rubber, in two minds if I want to go non runflat.. Will decide, got RFT Quotes and they not bad, but waiting for some on the Imports like Yokohama, Falken, etc. to compare.. :dunno:

Glad it’s sorted, mine was also recently replaced. Now out of plan I need to change oil filter housing gasket, water pump, charge pipe, etc one at a time as preventative maintainence.

After months of not being able to spend some time to take car of an exteme pet hate of mine, namely the shiney steering wheel, I finally managed to make some time this afternoon.

She surely is showing her age now, but glad to have a newer looking steering wheel again.

I used Angelwax Heaven for Leather, two rounds of that with a detailing brush and microfibers to get the initial dirt off.. Then I went for it.. Following some tricks of the detailing trade to really clean it and get it back to matt... Was scared to try it, but it worked out well..

Looks awesome,

can you post some steps , I would like to do the same ?

So she is back.. Picked her up this morning..
Very interesting what had to be replaced!

Seems like the gasket going warped the Cover itself, so BMW replaced the Cylinder Head Valve Cover too, also replaced the coolant and vent hoses as they got hot oil on them.. Motor was pressure cleaned, engine bay cleaned.. Looking good again, neat job. Some Bond sealant I can see on the one pipe but that I can maybe just clean off...

Car is pulling strong again.. :praise::thumbs:

On the Steering DIY, certainly, I will get a gap over the weekend and post the products and steps

Been quiet for a while. Glad to see the forum back up as well!

Car has gotten some TLC since the head incident as well.. Did the following in the last couple of weeks past:

1) 4 New Conti Runflats fitted.. I must say I feel they are better than the Bridgestones.. More grip in my view, and price wise a bargain honestly for RFTs.

2) Rogue Performance downpipe.. This is a proper local made downpipe, car sounds proper now. Freed up some nice power too, putting down 230wkw/477nm with just the downpipe. Nice crackles and pops at 4k rpm as well now. Sounds like a proper 6cyl as well in Eco mode when you get those revs up! :praise::thumbs:

3) Gearbox Service from ZF, did the Diff Oil too.. What a day I spent at ZF, was there for about 4 hours, this has to be one of the best places I have been!! Tumi was a really cool guy, talked me through everything, explained exactly how that box works in a lot of detail. The box is Super smooth after this and really shifts hard in Sport+DS.. This was worth it, even at full price I can recommend this.. :cartel::thumbs:

BMW contacted me.. So I went in to have a look at what they have to offer.. I took a drive in the M4 Competition.... BMW made me a good deal on it too... What a car, sounds and feels like a real race car to be honest, car refuses to drive slowly! :roflol: I don't know, it sounds like a race car, I cannot place the sound of the motor, between a V8 low down and a Track Turbo car up top.. Interesting sound, but I love my classic 6cyl sound, will keep my 335i for now, I cannot part with this car, it is just perfect, the interior, spec and all feels higher to me than the Ms I looked at.

So my baby will be getting sorted as I go along now, must do the battery next, then thinking of doing the Charge Pipe and maybe the Water Pump just so I know it is done before it gives in and leaves me stranded. Wanted to book a Carbon clean too, but struggling to get feedback, will maybe try again and see.
Any other preventative maintenance items I should be looking at besides these mentioned? Thanks all! :smilebounce:

My absolute favorite thing on this forum is finding threads that are treats to read. Yours was definitely one of those. Still love your car!

Yesterday afternoon was the day... She ticked over to 100k kms..

She is going strong, I have checked the logs I have done 20k kms in the last 2 years only.. Mostly long trips which added to the KMs too.

Hit a pothole.. Torn rear RFT.. Our roads really are messed up after the rains again..

Have done about 5k on the new tyres so replaced just the one.. Rim is a bit buckled and potentially I have a Stabilizer which could have taken a knock. Fun times again

Sorry bud. Had that happen beginning 2019 but I was almost due for new tyres. So just replaced them all.

How would you know if you have damaged the stabilizer?

Thanks Bud, yeah these things happen never nice but can always be worse.. I have been lucky with tyres on the car actually overall, but the roads are rough one never knows when you hit one..

So it is just a guess at this stage based on the alignment. The tyre place I always go to helped me out again this morning and they were fighting to get the aligment right according to the specs, we had 2 attempts at it each time and could not get it correct so the theory is something is slightly bent/moved. I will keep an eye on it though as the car is driving 100% to my liking, he adjusted the aligment to out of the spec and car is fine. But the car also has a lot of KMs could be suspension in general that is starting to need a refresh as well.

Now I am dodging the potholes again like crazy, swerving about, hehe.

Ouch that sucks, as long as you not getting strange vibrations your should be good, but keep an eye on the mountings and bushes for cracks or tares.
