Very easy process Bud. You remove the rubber covering the bumper, there will be 6 torx screws to remove, just screw them loose then the bumper will pull forward, you can them get your hand in there to unclip the tabs on the back of the grill, there are also 6 I think then you just gently pull the grill out once they are all unclipped.

Here is a youtube video on it

Thanks a lot for the info!

Thanks guys, appreciate! She hit 80k kms last week.. Nothing wrong with the car, think the front shocks might be getting some wear now, will have her at BMW soon for a few items I need sorted..

So my grills were plastidipped black some time ago, it did not last, faded and chips started to show. Not wanting to pay R2k for gloss grills I decided about a month ago to just sand and spray mine, worse case I can then buy a OEM set if I stuff it up.. But truth be told, came out okay, I am happy..

Removing the grill is easy, 5 min job.. Also gave me the opportunity to clean behind the grill and the radiator and intercooler got a nice scrub as well..

So I struggled with the plastidip, in my opinion it is not a product that will last given my experience.. I sanded the grills, sprayed with plastic primer, 2 coats matt black, 2 coats clear lacquer..

Obviously OEM gloss black is best, but this is close and I had all the paint, so it cost me nothing but some time :smilebounce:

Thanks @osiris, I should have been a bit more clear. My plastidip did not last :( So this is matt black normal spray under and lots of clearcoat :smilebounce:

I like it, there is so much clear on it, it will be safe against stone chips! :roflol:

So bit of an Update here...
Never used the Climate setting whereby you Activate the Aircon at a specific time to cool the car...

Earlier this week we went to the shops.. Car was parked outside as the mall we went to does not have under cover parking.. So I thought what the hell - We are likely going to be there for about an hour so why not cool the car off for when we are done..

So set the Climate setting to 1.30pm..

Off shopping I went, got back and the fan was running... Thought okay car is cool, makes sense.. So I unchecked the checkbox and hence switched off the function, I was quite happy testing the feature..

Low and behold I was in for hell... Since then regardless of the setting being disabled the car has been switching the fan on religiously at 1.30pm each day :fencelook:

Yesterday it ran the entire afternoon, car had a low battery warning even when I reached it Late the afternoon.. :rage:

Tried all to see why this was not switching off, so I was forced to clear all my personal settings via iDrive - finally even after that setting was unchecked it seemed to stop with its nonsense.. It did not do it today..

Lost all my music, settings, etc.. At least the fan is now quite..

Have I used this feature wrong? Is my software on my car buggy?

Car is looking good bud. I used the feature before but didnt have an issue switching it off, just unchecked the box and it was good. Never used it again though, felt it was a bit of a waste.

Been a while since I updated the thread..
Car was at BMW for some work, they adjusted suspension parts for me, sorted out the aircon (again), did brakes for me, and most interestingly there was a perpetual rattle/noise coming from the rear.. Turned out to be the exhaust heat shield which was damaged, I think this happened at the previous place we had, low driveway, reversing likely knocked the exhaust badly.. Was not covered under plan, understandably as it is damage, cost me around R1k to fix, car feels good again..

Also just did a 1600km road trip again, as per fuel economy thread, car did amazing on the open road, 6.6 and 7.1l/100km for the 2 trips.. Not bad for a 6cyl 3.0l turbo.. Car now has around 92,000kms on it.. Nothing major has gone wrong with this car..

Car has a very special feel to it for me, thus I am likely going to keep her, plan expires in May.. Think I will take the car for a Carbon clean soon as then see what the future holds for my N55.. Such a solid car this!

Quick snap below of her in the sun :smilebounce:

Cars still looks good bud. Amazing consumption. I know with the BMW petrol 6 cylinders you can get good consumption but it takes a lot of self control especially with the constant temptation of that sweet sound. Honestly you just won't be able to replace a car like that for the money. I would also keep it if I were you.

Car looks great man! What speeds do you typically cruise at to maintain such low consumption on long journeys?

Thanks man!
On the open roads I like to cruise the car along, 100/110km/h.. The revs are under 2000 most of the time. I don't care much for driving too fast on the open road anymore.. Nice to know the power is there on tap though!

Thanks for the kind words all, car is going strong for her age! Of all the BMWs I have owned and family members have owned, this one has given me the least problems compared, very solid car this.. :smilebounce:

After months of not being able to spend some time to take car of an exteme pet hate of mine, namely the shiney steering wheel, I finally managed to make some time this afternoon.

Before: :thumbdo:

After: :smilebounce:

She surely is showing her age now, but glad to have a newer looking steering wheel again.

I used Angelwax Heaven for Leather, two rounds of that with a detailing brush and microfibers to get the initial dirt off.. Then I went for it.. Following some tricks of the detailing trade to really clean it and get it back to matt... Was scared to try it, but it worked out well..

Steering wheel is looking great. The shine is getting to me, definitely something I need to look into doing in the near future.

There goes my Baby.. She was not driven for a while after the trip to coast, fired her up yesterday night when I got back from work with one of the other cars.. Took her to the garage to go fill up, when we got there smoke was coming from the bonnet.. First I thought cooling system.. Then I smelt it, was burning.. Checked with the flashlight, oil from the head at the manifold side was buring on hot manifold.. Literally 1km down the road from a cold start..
Phoned BMW on Call and the car was taken away, BMW have opened a job card, awaiting feedback.

Now from what I have read this could be the valve cover gasket or a severe oil filter housing leak running all the way to there..Oil filter was done before so I am assuming it is the valve cover, I sure as hell hope it is not the head gasket on the block.. No warning on the iDrive..

Still never a nice feeling, BMW on Call on point though, helped is in a matter of like 40mins I think and we were back home..

That's a shame man, but it should be sorted quickly, wouldn't seem to be a big problem if its the valve cover gasket.

Its the vale cover gasket, had the one on my wife's F30 replaced last year and booked the 535i in for this week. The heat from the turbo makes the gasket brittle so they kak out. :dunnoanymore:
