Ok, so with the increased number of autos on offer and manual becoming a dying breed, I want to know from the fanatics YOUR personal preference between Manual and Auto.

I would love to have an option to vote twice as this can be a bit of a fantasy poll (seen as some of us don't have ///M cars), so substantiate your answers please.
Looks like you can vote twice, so, normal car, manual or auto, and ///M car, manual or auto.
Basic poll is:
Manual (6 speed) or;
Auto (8 speed/7 speed DCT) Not sure if I should seperate the two or not.

Second side to it is, ///M car;
Manual or;
DCT??

Vote away.

Manual manual manual. I guess I'm just oldschool but enjoy being able to decide for myself when and where my cat changes gear. To be honest the only "auto" I've driven are a few dsg's. And I'll admit they are good. By I stand by my argument

Nice poll bud! Been debating this lately, if I had the cash to buy a new M3/4, would I opt for a manual or a DCT? For every M3 before the latest it would be manual for definate, but in it's latest guise the DCT makes a very compelling argument. But thing is, when I watch the advert on the aircraft carrier with the M4, the way you see that driver shifting that manual box, it makes me realise that manual still lives on strong and it would be my choice!!:rollsmile::praise:

In a lower powered car I definitely prefer manual.

For the higher powered cars, especially with these new 8 speed ZF gearboxes and dual clutch gearboxes being so good, I chose Auto.

Nothing will beat the driver involvement of the third pedal, nudda!

Bring on your tri clutch, 10 speed, 5millisecond gearshift's with LC ....
I'd choose a stick every time.

Long Live the Third Pedal! :worshippy:

Well definitely not the older cars I would say manual. But the new 8spd auto is magic and my vote is 8spd auto all the way

You will have to split the 6 and 8 spd auto they are miles apart

Depends on the car.

Bakkie workhorse or 4x4 trail toy, and small sports car - manual.

Big, luxury saloon - auto.

For a daily an auto is ok for me.
A weekend M car, I would like to do some work so a 3rd pedal is a must. :thumbs:

daily drive/commute on public roads Auto makes the drive so much less fatiguing on the personal body and mind, and is also kinder to the car itself

for some fun on weekends at the track, for some "real" driving, manual it would have to be

so get an Auto limosine, get a trailer, buy a sporty car, load sporty car onto trailer, drive in comfort at legal speeds and behaviour with the Auto car...to the track, unload sport car, and rip the ring out of the sport car on a dseignated track event and track destination.
then load manual track car back on trailer, and then cruise back sedately in Auto to home.

maybe I am getting old....oh yes I am old(er)

I have an auto and a tend to drive in M 90% of the time and blip the throttle on downshifts to make me feel better about not having a manual :fencelook:

My left hand needs something to do, I'd go for a manual everytime.
