Has anyone wondered why what is often referred to as "The Best driving cars in the world" are 90%+ manual from say the 90's up until present?
Why when BMW have an international advert displaying the ///M4 as a drivers car, they use a manual?

As they say, a straight road doesn't make for a skilled driver

Flame suit on :fencelook:

Tell John Force that... :fencelook:

Typical from a Merc Driver :nonono:

Anyway, I'll tell him when I'm done with his daughter.

Hahaha hey I've put mine around a track and still around to tell the story! Imma different breed

Nanny Aids always active in the Merc. Nice having you around though :roflol:

I must say though, the M-DCT is an amazing gearbox, especially with the throttle blips.
Let's take the new ///M3/M4 for example though;
The DCT gearbox is rated at 40kg's heavier than the manual (albeit that its low down in the car, potentially aiding the lower centre of gravity (gosh that makes ish complicated now for cornering)
Also with the new turbo platform, it may hold boost better on gearchanges?

DCT and the new 8 speed puts down power way better than a manual.

Manual is more fun to drive....

Manual can also be more costly to maintain than an Auto.

If i had the option i would have a daily Auto and a manual beast for those days...

I have an auto and a tend to drive in M 90% of the time and blip the throttle on downshifts to make me feel better about not having a manual :fencelook:

My left hand needs something to do, I'd go for a manual everytime.

You can always Grab your other STICK if your left hand wants something to do :biglol::biglol::biglol::biglol:

Manual :)

Much respect to the 8speed ZF box after driving it, Perfect to daily (bearing in mind we all say that and it normally means it's being used by the wifey so...). I still own only manual cars.

Manual FTW

Oh yes my vote is manual.

did I mention my vote is manual?

8 speed auto for a daily traffic car anyday please - no regrets. Anything else must be a manual  That said.. the DCT on the ///M's is probably worth it..

You can laugh but take cars that have a lot of torque. They eat clutch.

Yup if you drive them like a chop then they will destroy a clutch.

Now explain to me how this relates to the so called costly maintenance of a manual gearbox.....

Nothing will beat the driver involvement of the third pedal, nudda!

Bring on your tri clutch, 10 speed, 5millisecond gearshift's with LC ....
I'd choose a stick every time.

Long Live the Third Pedal! :worshippy:
