I am not disputing the fact that the m3 headers are great headers, on an m3. f1 headers are also works of art, but even if they were to fit, they would fuck up performance.
port mismatch = bull = lol. good thing fluid dynamics disagrees with you. do you know what happens to a gas when it flows from a confined space into a space with more volume? pressure drops and velocity decreases. now if you can tell me how that is good for performance, we can reinvent physics
if you read further, you would see I mentioned runner length. The design of this manifold is not just to look pretty, but the maximum use of the space available, to get the longest possible runners. longer runners mean faster escape of the exhaust gasses, maintaining exhaust gas escape speed. makes sense?
edit* yes pressure would drop and velocity decrease. but in this case we are not going from an extremely small pipe/port to a substantially larger one. Velocity would decrease yes, but bug enough to make a difference?
The port mismatch is NOT the volume. Its the shape of the ports. If you compare the 328i exhaust manifold gaskets which are 2 sets of 3 with rounded ports, compared to the M3 ports which are wider but slightly flatter, M3 headers with 328i gaskets cause a restriction.
Oh and I should also mentioned I'm not talking thru my arse, I've done this before, have you actually fitted an M3 exhaust to a 328i?

So I am now thinking of going for an aftermarket set that in terms of design looks a lot like these ones and are made for the e46.
(For some reason I don't want to modify the M3 ones too much)

Necro-bumping this, I know... But does anyone have any dyno figures to substantiate any of these different mod sets?
Between perceived butt-dyno increases, the fact that a louder car "feels" faster, and the "I modded it, so it has to be faster" placebo effect, there isn't exactly definitive performance data to show which mods are the most effective?
