Brake Recommendations

Hi all

I have a BMW F30 320i Sportline. I recently replaced the shocks all round, and now need to replace rear brake pads and discs. I was advised by an independent workshop that Messi pads and Alto discs are good quality Italian brands that they recommend. I tried searching online, and reviews are somewhat mixed with some saying they are good and hold sharp breaking power, with minimal to no squeaking noise. Other reviews say they hard a hard brake compound and better to use ATE. I have had ATEs in the past and I found them to be squeaky from lots of break dust they create. I believe Pagid are also good, but not sure on the cost. I priced OEM parts directly from BMW and they came in at around R5k for the pads, discs and sensor. Labour would be around R800 I estimate. The workshop I went to, quoted me R3200 including labour and parts with Messi and Alto.

Anyone have any experience with these and advise on which makes are best to get? Main criteria is they must offer good sharp breaking, no squeaking and minimal break dust. Also should last a decent time.

Thanks in advance.

Cant comment on the Messi and Alto brands, i would be cautious on brakes sourced from so called Italian suppliers...

Keep it simple, go to Goldwagon, get the Hella Pagid series of pads and discs and rest assured your getting exceptional quality at an affordable price.

I have recently switched to Metelli pads front and rear on my F30 and cannot notice a difference to the agents pads I had prior. I am still on agents discs.

On my F25 I have Stone discs in front with agents pads which have been fine for around 5k kms now.
