im just going to insulate the whole intake system as much as i can to keep the air as cool as possible...im only doing it because it will cost me almost nothing i dont think ill see a big gain/any real gain but its worth a try

Insulate it nicely, & make space so you can pack dry ice around the standard filter box.. that way the air is cooled & the CO2 from the ice is not sucked into engine

I would rather look at ways of channelling air around the box to cool it because then i will not have to keep getting dry ice :)
but im not sure if it can be done effectively

yo guys, so today we installed it right... drove it around the corner, and back.. Had it on for approximately 10minutes and we both ran to take it off. I literally felt like i was in a vw, anyhow.. CAI kit looks nice, But I prefer to keep my standard look and mate agreed with me, No point having your car grunt and go no where. Anyhow So suprised so many replied. We decided to take a baseball bat and see how far the k&n filter can fly :)

Correct me if I am wrong, but what most of you guys are saying is that you should not go the cone filter route unless it's a Cold Air Induction kit? (I dont understand why people would fit one without proper heat shielding anyway...)

Save up another 500 and get a set of original bmw bixenons fitted. Or save longer for a 6 speed manual and limited slip differential.

save a bit more and do your exhaust or you could change your intake manifold and put an e46 air box in i have read that the e36 gets gains from it but i have not researched it

there is no point in fitting a cone filter at all...spend your money in better places

Had my 325i rolling road tested today 218.8bhp

thats just with a chip from EndTuning and a Dave-F Induction kit.....Impressive if you think they're 192bhp from the factory.....thats 26.8bhp more than stock or 20kw more than stock.....

It would be nice if someone could replace the airbox in there e36 with one from an e46, with some before and after dyno results, well it would be nice for the e36 drivers at least :)

Not really possible as they intake from different places.

I am sure its possible..

I have seen the front piece from a E46 fitted in a E36:

The intake piece thats above the radiator..

Then you could fit the Airbox as well I am sure..

And comparing my E36 to the E46.. I dont see why not..

E36:

The only thing is on my E36, to replace the AFM with a MAF & have a chip fitted would yield the greatest gain in power..

But for a 4cyl I do not think its worth it..

I do not know how the E36 6cyl engines look though

The fact that my 2 cars engines are similar would make it easier..
the E36 is a M40 & the E46 is the M43..

Would rather just get cold air induction with an epic heat shield. Listened to the sound of Tigger's 325i which has a cone filter and it isnt that much of a difference. the difference that is there isn't bad as well.

No induction and chip

chip from here http://www.endtuning.com/chips.html

and Dave F induction kit.... E36's get a much bigger gain with induction kit than E46's do...Due as has been said to the crap airbox that an E36 has

that is an awesome gain then...
I guess with the e36 then its up to what sound you want you can get an e46 induction for R400 from the SY and im guessing you could make the Dave-f kit pretty cheap too

www.signaturemotoring.com Less than R1600 with an epic heat shield and a K&N filter. Thats what I will go for when I have the money.

Have a look at the pics on the right hand side, check where the kit meets the expansion bottle...Its doesn't look like its blocking off the heat that will be emitted from it(that's not good)...The Dave F uses this filter http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RU-2590 Its much bigger than the K&N57i one.....

@ Moranor yes now that I have a Dave-F it looks like his heatshield could be knocked up cheaply :thumb:
