I think its time for a 2021 Update :ROFLMAO: :

In the last 11 Months this vehicle has done exactly 900km's , that's when it had a major service. no track days/performance events were attended due to the lockdown in 2020. I've been pushing it back and forth in the garage very often so the tires do not develop flat spots and only starting it up when i have to travel more than 10km's at a time which is almost never lol.

I know the car is still perfect but since its almost a year gone past, I just went through and did basic checks on it:
Charge battery,
Check Oil Level/colour/condition,
Check Coolant level,
Check Power steering fluid,
Check Brake fluid
Run Diagnostics
Conclusion: All checks out fine, the engine oil is still like new so i'll try and do alteast 2000kms more before replacing the oil, ceratec and oil filter.

In all this time, the most i got to enjoy the car was on the BMW Z run to Harties last month.. It made me realize what i have been missing out on (both the people and the Cars) so in 2021 I plan to properly enjoy it... I've already ordered some aftermarket modifications to the Z4M, the idea is to take the car as it currently is and amplify the experience it offers. will post more details when everything arrives in SA.

So much has happened with this car recently.

I started out with finding a worthy MSS70 ecu tuner in the US because this will be key later on when we start with hardware changes.

For now since my car is standard we took the stock tune and slightly optimized it for our poor SA fuel and jhb altitude. Minor changes were made to the original tune , just a few tweaks to vanos timing and fueling in the midrange.

The result at Dyno sport was:
Stock the car made 189wkw and 310nm

After some tuning we achieved a result of 208wkw and 354nm. These results are same day , same condition results . As we had spent 6hrs on there and done over 20 runs with logging and monitoring everything.

While I love to say I made 208kw and 354nm this is a bit suspicious so I went and ran the tune at Tyremart sunninghill dyno and made a more reasonable 190wkw and 303nm . This is fine with me and it’s more realistic for a healthy s54 with all stock hardware.

I’m happy with that as we are mostly collecting data to build the Aplha N tune . The car is more responsive especially from low to midrange rpm.

With all the dyno runs , the car had seen so much of 8000rpm action that I decided to replace the oil and oil filter. Just to keep the engine running at its best because we had a track day coming and the oil will be overheated on the track so fresh oil seems like a good move.

Cut open the oil filter to check how things are... was very clean and the oil was not very dirty so i was happy.

Next up I hated the gear shift in this car, the ZHP weighted shift knob helps to an extent but I still didn’t find it being the solution at the track where u need gears quickly and I found myself sometimes missing a gear or messing up time with changing gears. I decided to change out the factory shifter for a Chassis mounted one . The shifts are now way more crisp and direct , just the extra confidence knowing u will always get the right gear immediately is a big plus.

Had to remove exhaust, prop shaft and bunch of other things to gain access to the shifter location.

RTD shifter fitted, this one has a reverse lock out and I needed to trim some of the plastic under the covers for it to line up nicely and take all the gears.

Here it is all sorted.

While all that was already out the car, I decided to fit the uprated 303motorsport engine and transmission mountings. The old poly mounts where starting to annoy me with all the additional vibration. They also looked tired .

notice how the poly mount has deformed after all the hard driving and performance events. Below is the original mounts that were removed in 2016 and the poly mounts fitted with the new 034 motorsport mounts.

Also fitted the Eventuri air scoop. This will play a role later when the CSL box is installed.

Next up for track prep I replaced the brake fluid with Motul RBF700 racing fluid. Super expensive but works like a dream.

Then I changed out the transmission fluid with new oil from bmw. This to make the gear shifts even more smoother as the transmission fluid was last replaced in 2016 with Liqui Moly MTF then. I'm back to OEM for DIFF and TRANS fluids.

VW Club SA time attack at Vereeniging Kart Circuit

We got there early, attended drivers briefing, collected the transponder and stuck it on the LHS window, switched over to the semi slicks and got in line .

It was amazing experience , Everyone was going out and pushing hard and it was very competitive. I started of slowly getting use to the car and then went out each time and pushing a little bit harder until eventually I was first in RWD class and overall 3rd fastest driver on the day. The car performed really well and I properly enjoyed it .

Here are some pics we snapped on the day

The quality , fit and finish of the turner Motorsport airbox is just next level. The airbox is really a work of art . I took it on a small drive after loading the tune all was good , no funny business . The roads were busy so I couldn’t fully open it up but at partial throttle/10-20-% it’s quiet almost like stock. But at WOT it’s insanely loud and sounds incredible. I’m very pleased with it . I tried to take a video with my phone but it cannot capture the sound of the engine properly maybe about 30% to 50% of it.

It’s awesome , no regrets :)
