So an update. I took the car to an exhaust place in Parklands and was told that unfortunately they couldn't help me with the back silencer because of what the original exhaust, something I am not entirely convinced about as another exhaust place around the corner said it shouldn't be a problem to replace. Anyways, that aside, apparently the car requires a special rubber for the exhaust hanging which I have now gotten from BMW for a price of R212 for the the 3 of them, which I didn't think was too bad at all!
I have also discovered that one of the braided hoses running from the fuel tank to the fuel pump is in fact perished and leaking.....bad news if you're following me and a smoker....:roflol:
On the plus side, the car really drives nicely despite the unbearable sound of NO exhaust! I will need to replace the batteries on the rear of the instrument binnacle, the needles are all over the place unfortunately. But I was really chuffed with how the car drove, other than misfiring because of the lack of exhaust and the cutting out because of no pressure in the exhaust system (I am assuming) and the slight fuel delivery issue.
Other than that,I am very happy! I am going to take the car next week to the other exhaust place and get it done there. If I have to replace the system from the downpipes all the way back, then so be it. The reason I have avoided that is because I want to keep the car as original as possible, hence me salvaging the the exhaust system.
