A couple of things I'm not impressed with are:

Squeaks from the dashboard. Sounds like the plastic is rubbing against itself. A car at this price point should feel solid with no untoward rattles or squeaks.

And the noisy suspension. I can hear every bump, sounds like a 20 year old car with no bushes.

I cannot believe this is normal or acceptable. Anybody else have this?

I don't have a squeaky dashboard, or noisy suspension......only issue I had was a humming sound that actually disappeared after a wheel alignment done by bmw a few weeks ago.....weird.........apart from that my car seems to be perfect (touch wood).....

So my car may not be one of those made on a Friday afternoon....lol.....Jokin...

So maybe the problem with the humming is wheel alignment after all. Till today mine humming is also gone

Car is at BMW for its first service. Odo sitting on around 24 000km. No campaigns against the car, only one showing is the old drainage grommet fix. Lady said it will just be an oil change and front brakes (preparation for kyalami on the 5th, thanks alot).

I am a bit miff that they not even taking out the air filter to shake it out a bit and atleast removing, cleaning and checking gaps on plugs.

Oh well...

Just got the car back... Yes that was very quick.

Did oil and front brakes

Couldnt fix the brake pedal, apparently thats how they supposed to be, with 2cm lateral movement each way and they couldnt adjust the M Exhaust. They flushed the Air Con but it still smells like wet cat...

I am now waiting for BMW to provide written confirmation that I can take the car to Supaquick so that they can fix the poor M exhaust fitment.

Other than that it was a fun experience.

I drove it and it was fine so i left but just as i get home i heard the same knock on the right side now and also a humming noise coming from the left when going over 110 km/h.

I had the humming sound just after the cars first service in March this year - Wheel alignment, balancing, new tyres and wheel bearing tested, lower engine covers modified and still have the humming sound - Almost 4 months now with 6 visits to the dealership and tests with the regional manager and the problem still persists

BMW - sheer driving pleasure till 110km/h :thumbdo:

Ja its a tricky one that. Mine strangely also started after a service. Wheel bearings were replaced, engine covers inspected and removed. I was there every time they worked on my car and when I left it was gone for a while. My car has 35000km on clock now and tyres are about 15% front and 20% rear before the are finished to legal limits. The humming has mysteriously dissapeared and has not yet returned again.

1. I would like to know what tyres you have on your car currently and size?
2. What year model is your F30?
3. Who did the alingment (BMW or did the use an outside party)?
4. Is your tires featherd on the outside edges?
Mine was Bridgestone Potenza S001 225 50 17 .
If yours are different then I think we can rule out tyres and focus on engine covers, wheel alignment, that might cause the problem.

To you guys with the humming sound, are you sure your tyres arent transforming into semi slicks when you get in the car and when you get out the transform back to normal tyres? Haha! :D! My semi slicks are so loud at highway speed that it almost creates a drone in the car. But I love them anyway... My gf makes loud humminh noises when her blood pressure rises over 110km/hr too and I still love her too.. :roflol:

How does everyone elses aircon work? Yesterday was rather warm and my aircon struggled. Never actually cooled the car down. My wife's Jetta in black, I have to turn the temp up on the aircon because it gets too cold in the same situation.

My previous E46 was also freezing cold.

On the centre console, between the main air vents, there is a roller switch, make sure its all the way to blue. Left mine on red once and even with ac on 16 it was still blowing hot air.

Yeah, I always leave that on blue. Had that on the previous Beemers too. So it's not that.

Then i've got no idea. Take it to BMW and tell them to fix.

So it's been a month now with absolutely no humming sound from the front left side when driving above 110km/h. The aluminum belly pan was replaced with a revised one.

My wife'S F30 went in recently for 25000Km service. Oil change only I think. Also front tyres worn on sides. That is what I suspected the humming sound came from. Perhaps alignment issues.

Now the car I have noticed gives off a cloud of smoke at the back on firts startup in the mornings. This only started after service.

This morning I tried revving the car while engine was running and in neutral. Only goes a little over 3000rpm. What is this...

I can bet my bottom hundred dollars that if I take the car for a dyno now it would not go close to the 135Kw car is supposed to make. Cars are restricted by dealers to ensure that it is not driven to pieces before the Motorplan expires.

Couple of friends took their Ranger bakkies for dyno and the results were below factory specs. Detuned I guess. We are being ripped off!!!

The rev limit is in neutral to protect the engine. Even some of the old Mercs have it. When you drive it will go past 3000rpm. :hammerhead: Dont ever rev a cold diesel like that when cold. You are going to cause premature ware on engine and turbo. You are asking for it to blow up.

Buy why the blue smoke on first startup in the morning? This i a petrol model.

I suspect you might have symptoms of turbo starting to leak. They will have to remove the plumbing from the turbo and check for sings of oil. I know my dealer has had a few 320i F30 with turbo starting to fail (smoke on start up). It is also not a quick process because BMW SA wants foto's to be sent of the plumbing if they do find oil in your intake system and they will also check your computer for any illeagal chipping and so on. I Suggest you take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

I know they designed the F30 with start stop function but in my opinion its not good thing for the turbo if you have a heavy foot. Hence the reason I had mine reprogrammed by BMW to stay off when I switch it off. I only use the Start stop function in heavy traffic.

Keep us posted on what their findings are. I recon your car will be with them 3days for them to check it out and if they have to replace turbo

My car also has q lot of rattles but its not consistent, so difficult to get adressed.

Question though...i keep getting a warning upon startup of battery being drained and that electical systems was switched off. What can this be? I cant think of anything that drains my battery while car is dead and locked

My Park Assist seems to be up to shit today, it's moving the car in all odd directions :roflol:

Friend of mine has same issue. He said his fan doest go off when thr car is off. Thr screen says something like the excessive battery drain while off. Or something like that. He had it at the dealers but they say they found nothing.

And also this

Some really, really weird issues used to crop up with it and it went to the dealers many times for stupid little faults like these. Actually glad I'm rid of it to be honest

I don't rely on the park assist, it's just a nice toy to have :tiptoe:

I'm sure it's just a minor glitch
