lol my dud seems like it needs a motor this time at a tune of R200 000, I am a bit weary though have a feeling that someone wants to buy my car as first I get compliments how neat my car is then I am told they will have to replace the motor because from day one I have told them that the motor is very noisy on cold startup and when it is warm it sounds like the manifold or something is loose.

If its such a dud, why don't you just get rid of it?

I am waiting for BMW to respond on actions going forward might be an option but if they are going to sort out the current issues and a new motor what more can I ask for as the rest of my car is pristine had it since new.

does anyone know yet of a starter broken because of the stop/start tech? (yes I know I should rather ask turbos/engine failure because of that, but no way of checking that)

I leave my stop start active until mp expires. If something wants to break, it must break now...besides I like it. :)

Nice informative thread thanks guys

Problem is then you may have put more wear on those components and then they break after MP expires... just a thought.

Buy why the blue smoke on first startup in the morning? This i a petrol model.

I suspect you might have symptoms of turbo starting to leak. They will have to remove the plumbing from the turbo and check for sings of oil. I know my dealer has had a few 320i F30 with turbo starting to fail (smoke on start up). It is also not a quick process because BMW SA wants foto's to be sent of the plumbing if they do find oil in your intake system and they will also check your computer for any illeagal chipping and so on. I Suggest you take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

I know they designed the F30 with start stop function but in my opinion its not good thing for the turbo if you have a heavy foot. Hence the reason I had mine reprogrammed by BMW to stay off when I switch it off. I only use the Start stop function in heavy traffic.

Keep us posted on what their findings are. I recon your car will be with them 3days for them to check it out and if they have to replace turbo

Car is at the dealers. removed turbo...Now they have been instructed to replace the turbo.

BTW. I am driving with a 320 model automatic. What a joy!! And a lot more responsive than the manual one I bought

I stole my moms 320 F30 today as mine went poof.

I really like this little car, and that motor impresses me every time I drive it.

Stop Start is frikken annoying though...

+1 to BMW for that transmission, even in the entry levels...

Personally I don't mind stop start. If you press lightly on the brakes it doesn't stop, you have to press pretty firmly. If that's annoying it's a button press away (either the stop start button or the sport button).

I switch my stop start off whenever I get in my car... I hate it!

My 328i sounds like a diesal when its cold but Im told its normal haha. Many posts all over the world say it sounds like a diesal.

But she runs like a dream and if there is a problem BMW will take care of it so I am not worried, until 2019 when the MP runs out.

Just ask them to set it to Remember last selection. All that the dealer has to do is contact BMW Technical

That sounds like a good option compared to being permanently disabled. Just removes the annoyance but keeps flexibility.

Are you sure about this because I complained about the diesel noise on my 320i and it turned out to be a failing oil pump. Engine is currently being replaced. Lol make sure your car is not an Oct 2012 build as there is another thread with F20 guys who need engine replacement with same build period.

My F30 is in for a shudder on clutch. And for central locking that opens while driving. Just received a call from dealer that both problems are "not problems".
Wife drives car 80% of the time. Once or twice when I have driven car hard I could smell the clutch...and also experienced the shudder.
But I can assure them that the car with only 39 900km on the clock will be back....to replace the clutch.

Any other fix for the front suspension knock besides replacing the steering rack? can the rack be repaired? Only realizing now that my car has this knock and I have always thought that was normal because of the sport suspension + 19" wheels. now car is out of plan :blueCry:

1.Front shock and shock mounts.
2.Yes they now have a steering rack repair kit(think its a guide with a spring
3. Also check windscreen washer water bottle that its not loose in R/H fender

Thanks bro, I replaced shocks 30 000km ago before the car went out of the plan. I'm convinced its the steering rack and wish I had seen this post before my MP expired :blueCry:

Steering I think it wont be that expensive for the "Tgrust repair kit" http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...330d&mg=32&sg=12&diagId=32_2071&q=32106891974
