F30 335i Shifting with Paddles / Small amount of Oil between Gearbox and Oil Pan

Hi guys,

How many of you guys use the paddle shifting when in M/S ?
Have you noticed the "harsh" shifts from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd - I don't use it often, when i did the car was still in Comfort mode and didnt give it beans just about to 3000/3500rpm just wanted to use the paddles a bit, but came on another site and seems as its normal...

Guessing I'm not use to the BMW box though - in normal Auto its smooth - can feel a change here and there but not "harsh" at all.

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1227065

Then onto the 2nd thing, I've noticed a small amount of oil between the Gearbox and Oil Pan from date of delivery and dealership says all is normal (They have changed the tappet cover gasket as there was a a small amount of oil at the back, as well as the oil filter housing gasket as a precaution they changed)

So not sure where this small amount will come from then - as the dealership still says they cant see where its coming from, also have a letter from BMW SA where they state that all is in spec - I know not everyone will lie down and check under the car if anything is funny or not, I'm just that kind of guy :sorry:

Ive cleaned it to look like this (22 July)

And Yesterday (14 Aug) Before i cleaned it in July it did look like below aswell - not as much as on the screw...

So not sure where to say its coming from or how big of a problem it is...

Reason why i got BMW SA involved - and then they got incontact with BMW Northcliff - they said its a sweat as its a "Performance" car although we dont drive it in that manner...

But taking the car to BMW JSN with Carlo and Pete in September for a 2nd opinion.

But would like to see how other 335s look there...

Thats utter BS explanation from BMW, i'd ask them to provide this in writing and then ask if you can submit their official written reasoning on all media platforms. Then see how quick they do a 180.

No performance car should be designed to sweat oil or any fluid.

Exaclty what i thought, reason why i asked BMW SA to supply me with a letter... As i dont want them to come back and spin a story for driver abuse or some BS.

Same time they also changed a waterpipe, wasnt leaking when we had it though, guessing it was precaution

That letter in no way refers to the oil leak you're concerned about or the fact that the oil leak in the area of the car is normal operation

Shows you the way they listen and care for their customers :hammerhead:
Kevin and Tony at BMW Northcliff said that all is in spec - but as you stated i cant see that its "normal" reason why we not going back to Northcliff - find their service utterly k@k - but because the car was bought there we thought they would sort it out 1st time :thumbdo:

:ty: yes car is allready booked in with Carlo for early September, they so busy.
Also spoke to Pete the service manager, said he rarely gets a rearmain seal repair but mentioned something about a belly plate or somesort and then maybe the oil pan gasket - but he will only be able to check when the car is with him.

The oil there is actualy a tiny amount if you think about it but yeah its still worrisome.

What is your guys feedback or review on the M/S with paddle shifting in the ZF8 box vs DCT in the E90 and normal Auto's... ?

Chat to Nico from ZF and see what he has to say about it. I would not think that is normal.

Read through a few threads on here forum and seems "normal" - but have Pm'd Nico, thank you for the advice

Creed's impressions of his new M140i he mentions -
"I did find when using sport mode and using the paddle shifts that the gear shifts are harsher and I feel a bit of a jerk while shifting, I think this is just the gearbox trying to speed up the shifts in this mode, not entirely sure but I'm not sure i really like that, feels harsher on the gearbox. Might just end up sticking more to the auto mode to ensure the gear shifts are smoother. In full auto its silky smooth"

Hi guys,

I have the exact same issue and did some research on the net. Some guys overseas don't have answers to this.

I don't have oil leaking but when I the gearbox is moist in the exact same place! I only noticed this when my downpipe was being installed and car just got out of MP.

BMW also changed my valve cover and oil filter housing gasket, so I am hoping this was the oil that leak before the valve cover change.

I plan on cleaning it an monitoring from there..

Just an update - Car is at JSN.

Northcliff should suck a fat one.

Anyway JSN came back at about 11 after i dropped it off just after 8 - saying it is the sump gasket but the leak is also coming a bit higher, bottom block of short-block so they will replace that part if i understood him correct.

Happy that JSN go through the effort where Northcliff doesn't seem to want to do labor-intensive work reason why they just said the car is "in Spec" :dunnoanymore:

While all is out they will be doing/motivate to do they Rear Main seal as well (Precaution)

Gearbox is 100% with the shifting in M/S with Sport, it is the characteristic of them:praise:
