E92 325i LCI

Dunno if theres any truth in it but I been getting the warning for my brakes that need replacing. Been reading 1200km for the last month or so, I done more than 1200km in that time.
Some random with a E92 said he changed his brakes and gapped or did an over ride on the brake sensors and they dont give the error (claimed he didnt change the brake sensors either). Cant recall as I dont really pay attention to stuff like that and would rather have working sensors otherwise whats the point of having it.

You car is Hot though. Your black BMW badges, where did you buy them or were they painted?

The range (in your case, 1200km) is an estimate. It does not know how hard you will brake and for how many KM. Picture yourself on a straight road on a long journey where you're racking up the mileage. It suddenly becomes irrelevant in terms of that drive at least (assuming you're barely braking and on a freeway).

I haven't done an override on the sensors - maybe it just hasn't split in order to trigger the warning. It threw the error the last time it needed changing though but perhaps I'm expecting it to show (now) even though it's not ready.

The black badges is vinyl/film that is placed over the original badge. The generic black badges that you can buy fade easily and vinyl seems to be the better option.

Was up early today. Visited Masterparts in Pinetown and purchased a set of Metelli rear brake pads. Previously had Sure Brake pads from Goldwagen which were average and lasted me all of 15000km :fencelook:

Got the car up and took the pads for sampling. Didn't take any other pics other than this

OBC showed that I had 9000km remaining but the pads were literally down to nothing. No errors were present so I reused the sensor. With the new pads it now still shows 9000km :roflol: But that's a problem for another day. Honestly not too phased with it either so will most likely leave it until the next change of pads

Changed my rear tyres again today Annoys me a bit as they've seen about 4000km. The side wall had a slit which was causing leaks. Decided to go for non RFTs.

Took the passengers home with me :biglol:

Now to source a spare wheel kit. Hopefully tyre fix/weld will be my friend until I can find this... and yes, for those that were following this thread - I've been driving around with non RFTs in the front with no spare wheel for the last few months :roflol:

Popped by on Saturday to straighten one rear wheel. Turns out that the wheel (which had the leaking tyre on) took a bit of damage so I got this sorted out before a relatively long journey. Essentially , "5" wheels straightened in the last three weeks :hammerhead:

Approx 600km later and I'm back in the hometown. Most of the drive was per normal speed rules. Didn't want unnecessary attention seeing that I still don't have number plates on :fencelook:

Consumption was very reasonable - fluctuating between 6-8.5l/100km according to the OBC.

Update time..

So after the KZN Ice-Cream Run - I had noticed that the car had some nice 'exhaust fart' sounds upon some up and downshifts. This could only mean one thing in my case - RIP another coilpack. Got back to the area later that night and lo and behold; V8-like misfire sound :smilebounce:

Got it changed out the next day - I think it was cylinder 5 that was misfiring.

While I got the codes read out - I found out that I had a gearbox error code that was present. Called ZF and booked the car in for a gearbox service.

For those that are interested- ZF6 gearbox service is around R3700 incl. labour. This is the error that you will most likely encounter:

Went on a mini vacation this past weekend. Was quite surprised with the consumption on the car. Traffic was minimal and between 140-160kmh was the perfect cruising speed for the trip. 180km later - OBC showed 8l/100km and we had arrived at our destination with a range of 600km remaining. Less than a quarter tank of fuel was used. Boot was packed to capacity as well.

On the way back I noticed a loud clicking sound from the front of the car. Stopped to find out that the lip spoiler/splitter was grazed and the screws had come loose. I couldn't remove it as I didn't have any tools with me. How did this happen? No idea...

Anyway, it was butchered by the time I was back home so I have just removed it for now. Not used to seeing the front end of the car so 'naked'... :hammerhead:

Nice write up . Really decent fuel consumption there. Shows what is possible when you can exercise some self restraint but the temptation is always there.

Thanks bud. I was surprised with the long distance consumption. I am now at a 1/4 tank of fuel and have done exactly 550km. Not bad at all I guess.

Car really struggles in traffic and city drives though. Not very efficient at this.

Back to my daily commute this week so will be filling up soon :hammerhead:

As for the low life vs real life. This is why I haven't lowered my car and don't know if I ever would :blueCry:

I had initially plasti-dipped the kidney grills (last year) which had then started peeling; exposing the chrome underneath in bits and pieces which was extremely disgusting to look at.

Had some time over the long weekend so I decided to get the paint compressor out and spray the grills in a gloss black. It was time for the matte black to go...

Removed the grills:

Required tools:

Torx Bit (T-30 IIRC)
Short flat head screw driver (which is what I had used)

How to:

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the 4 torx screws on the upper section of the bumper.
3. Pull the top of the bumper forward to get to the back of the kidney grills. There should be enough play here but be gentle (doh!).
4. Unlatch the grills (each tab has little latch) with your fingers or a flat screwdriver. Be aware of what you're doing so that you don't scratch anything.

Left out to dry after being sprayed:

Other than that - the cars OFHG started to leak. Purchasing two gasket from Goldwagen later today (R98 each) and will be getting it sorted out tomorrow. Glad its not the VCG (as this was already done in MP and is a little more expensive :hammerhead: )

The brake service estimate is reset via the instrument cluster, it doesn't do it automatically - Had similar with my car saying it had 8000km to go on the fronts and the next day the sensor touched metal and it wanted them NOW.

Remember to reset it when you change the pads so it stays accurate.

Yes, for sure. I've done this before on this car and my previous E90 (and a few others as well). No idea why it didn't work this time around :hammerhead:

I didn't really look into it as its easy to see the brakes with the wheels that are on the car. I'll just change the sensor with the next brake pad change and hopefully it'll sort itself out

The rings are stock. I have only changed the fogs to white LEDs :thumbs:
