Haha thanks man, I quite like the wheels on this one so I'll be keeping them for a while :hammerhead:

You should know that Riaad always has first dibs on things that he can't seem to get his hands on ie. e46 330i :biglol: :smilebounce:

So as I said I'd be doing:

Review on the brakes

I decided to take one for the team - simply just because it was cheap and I was curious to find out how these brakes would be.

I opted for Messi pads, and discs that were provided by Nazir's Brake and Clutch (excellent service from these guys). The disc was their 'house brand' and had no name on them, nor the packaging. The pads and discs set me back R1300 excl. labour (I know right, was I even thinking? :eek:mgwaiting: ).

I've done just over 1000km on this set and they have bedded well - no vibrations or steering shimmy when braking.

The good:
1. Really good brakes for day-to-day driving - emergency stops were fine as well with no issues whatsoever. If you do not drive your car hard, save your bucks and go with these brakes. There is no 'compromising on safety' here - the brakes bite hard.
2. Barely any noticeable brake dust (weird, since the brand is Messi :fencelook: )

The bad:
1. I've noticed extra pedal travel when compared to OEM
2. Not great if you do spirited driving often
3. Poor ventilation - a few hard stops, in quick succession, and the brakes feel 'tired' and need to cool down before you can hoon again
4. Screeches at low speeds

I'm going to be changing these for the brands that were initially recommended here as this set doesn't suit my driving style.

I will be putting this set up for free (once I get some time to swap them) for anyone that is in need of brakes and isn't in a position to be spending money right away. Please note that you really shouldn't be using these if you drive hard, however, I recommend it for your daily driving in 'normal' conditions.

tl;dr Recommended for grannies and soccer-moms only :blowheart:

I leave you with some more pics :chef:

Looks nice without the front number plates
Dbn metro don't give you Kak?

Thanks buddy. I haven't had the front plates on for over a month or so now (maybe even more than that). I haven't had any trouble with the cops but I wouldn't recommend it, it is illegal at the end of the day.

Also, if a cop gets you on the wrong day then it's gonna be an unnecessary fine.

I haven't put my plates on as yet because I'm waiting for some heavy duty velcro coins to be delivered to me. I will be 'sticking' the plates on with those so that I can remove when necessary (pics etc) :chef:

That being said, I have noticed a lot of beemers that only have rear plates and no front plates on the bumper :roflol:

Got my front tyres changed today - honestly ran them waaay longer than I should have but anyway I've opted to throw away the convenience, and possible safety factor, and go for non run-flats and a spare.

My issue(s) with the tyres that I initially had (Pirelli P Zero runflats) was that they were extremely rough and uncomfortable over uneven roads and the odd bump here and there felt like the entire interior was crashing. I also struggled to get significant mileage of these tyres and they were toasted after about 20k km. Other than that, I couldn't justify spending R20k on 4 'performance' tyres that are sitting on a slow 325i in Durban (someone give us a track already).

After reading a few reviews and comparisons, my car is currently sitting with the two new Continental Sport Contact 5 tyres up front and the Pirelli P Zero RFTs on the rear :roflol: :hammerhead: Once the rears have had their days I will change these for non runflats as well.

I have only driven approx 60km since the install and they're so much better than runflats, and obviously cheaper! Much smoother over uneven roads, that embarassing 'crashing cabin sensation' over bumps has gone, better steering feel - so smooth and precise (feels lighter - but that's probably because my old tyres were extremely bad).

My concern is the wear on the Contis since they're a softer compound. Has anyone had experience with these tyres?

After damaging my front lip (a few times) - I've finally decided to sort it out with some quick gloss black spray paint. Not sure how long it'll hold up for, but I've read some good reviews (and seen some YouTube videos) on using this on plastic bits of cars. The guys at the store also assured me that it would be fine to go through car washes without peeling off.

After (this was after this first two coats only - did 5 coats in total):

Please excuse the dirty car, she will be sparkling again in a few hours time :hammerhead:

No real updates.

Car picked up a misfire on cylinder one so we changed the coil-pack. Changed all the plugs as well since they weren't looking good either.

Existing plugs weren't OEM and were BOSCH plugs so I went ahead and matched the part. I'm quite concerned as to whether these are the 'long life' plugs as they were much cheaper than I had expected them to be.

I was also told that the plugs were changed approx 27k km ago (according to the dealership and the service book) - This was prior to my ownership.

Is this lifespan normal?

This picture of the old plugs makes me wonder (no clue where the other 2 fell lol):

Wanted to do an early oil change service while the car was opened up but didn't have enough time today. Will probably sort that out before the end of the month.

No interesting updates.

Car went in for a service today. I usually service her every 10-12k KM. No reason for this really, just prefer to do it like that.

Plugs and coilpacks were done last week so we didn't open that part up again.

Did the usuals:

Oil
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Wiper Blades (man, they were bad - only ever remembered when it rained though :roflol: )

Next on my list is to source a headlight washer cover and get it painted.

Always something to do :hammerhead:

Haha so I swear I have the worst luck when it comes to cosmetics on my car...

Headlight washer cover arrived today (still unpainted) and my car decided that it would be a good trade-off for my wheel cap :roflol:

I honestly think that someone tried to steal them because all the wheel caps are lifted and look a bit damaged. Perfect timing because I had just done the black badges :blueCry:

Anyway - my car is still dirty but here's some terrible pics that I took of the badges that still exist :biglol:

Will go sometime this week and buy another badge and rock the "one wheel blue badge" until @Riaad can hook me up again :chef:

PS: forgot to take rear pics :hammerhead:

So as most of you know, I was having immense issues with the ride quality of my car. After the painful experience (and frustration of driving up and down) of visiting many wheel and tyre stores - I had been told that one wheel needed the lip to be rebuilt. R2000 later, without my wheels for about 10 days and this seemed to have been resolved.

Shortly after that (for about a week or so) the opposite side wheel would leak to about 1.6 and just stop. No one could find the leak. Visited many tyre and wheel stores/garage as well to check this out. This was not consistent and would happen randomly as some days it would be fine. Needless to say that I was having a crappy ride once again.

Back to TWR this morning for balancing AGAIN. Everything was off. I was told that the other 3 wheels are buckled. Highly annoying as they were fine just the other day. What gives.

So anyway - the buckles were minimal and was told to see how it goes with the balancing. About 70km later - I cannot handle the way it drives once again. The remaining wheels will be sent in for straightening next week at a discounted rate from them (their service and workmanship is top notch. Would recommend to anyone).

A few pics I snapped today:

While the wheels were off - I realized that I literally have no rear brake pads left. Wonder why it didn't trigger off an error/warning. Will be sorted out tomorrow anyway...

PS. Why the heck are my rotors/hub rusted? I've been told that its normal and doesn't affect anything. But damn it looks disgusting. Weird for OEM parts...

Dunno if theres any truth in it but I been getting the warning for my brakes that need replacing. Been reading 1200km for the last month or so, I done more than 1200km in that time.
Some random with a E92 said he changed his brakes and gapped or did an over ride on the brake sensors and they dont give the error (claimed he didnt change the brake sensors either). Cant recall as I dont really pay attention to stuff like that and would rather have working sensors otherwise whats the point of having it.

You car is Hot though. Your black BMW badges, where did you buy them or were they painted?
